I'm bored and thought I would start a thread on computers. What do you have? When did you get it? What are it's specs? What upgrades do you want for it? What did you pay for it?

I'll Start:

Bought in 2004
Price Paid New $3000
Dell Demension 8300 (Should have gotten the XPS, DOH!)
3 Ghz Pentium 4
80 Gig HD
1 Gig RAM
128 MB Video Card
Soundblaster Pro 5.1 Digital Dolby sound Card
19 inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor
Optical Mouse
CD-RW
DVD-ROM
3.5 Floppy
8 USB ports
Integrated Either
Windows XP OS

Current Upgrades:
Secondary 160 Gig HD
Now runs 2 Gigs RAM
128 MB Video CARD Died and now has a 68 MB

Wanted Upgrades:
256 MB Video Card (Will have in 2 weeks.)
2 More Gigs of RAM
20+ inch LCD Monitor or LCD TV
500 Gig HD
DVD-RW

Even with out the upgrades, she is still not having any problems keeping up with current software.

I received this one from my grandfather in 2003. I've no clue what he paid for it, but he got it probably around the time it hit the market (late 2001 at least).

eMachines T1110
1.0 GHz Celeron Coppermine
100 MHz FSB
256 MB RAM
Altec Lansing 2.1 speaker system
25 GB Seagate HDD (now housed in external enclosure)
16 inch flatscreen CRT monitor
standard-issue CD-RW and floppy drives, ethernet port and a couple of USB 1.0 ports in the front.
Windows XP Home

Upgrades:
standard-issue DVD-ROM drive I cannibalized from our Win98 Compaq (later removed when I got the DVD-R drive)
16x/4x/52x DVD±RW/DL/CD-RW drive
USB 2.0 card
replacement Mini-ATX power supply (the original one burned out)
80 GB Seagate HDD (in external enclosure)
160GB Seagate HDD (swapped out)
Windows XP Home SP1 (eh, not something you have to pay for, but whatever - I held out until late last year before installing SP1, though, due to the LBA concerns and one important program I use won't run without it - there's no way I'm installing SP2, though)
Ubuntu Linux (again, not have to be paid for; started out using 5.10, now using 6.10)

Wanted:
A 5.25-inch external enclosure so I can use the DVD-ROM again (I might put the burner in the enclosure so that I could use it away from home)
A new fan - I don't know how much more time this one's got in it
another 256 MBs of RAM to max out the memory capacity

Of course, with the video editing that I do, I really want/need a completely new system, which I would probably build myself/have built for me. The only problem is that I have no way to pay for it (the upgrades this thing has seen sofar have been mostly inexpensive or birthday and Christmas presents).

I can make it another year with a cpu upgrade before i have to get new motherboard, cpu, and 240 pin ram.My psu should handle the upgrade. It is far cheaper to build in short and long run then to buy a boxed pc! I emplor you , if you cant build it your self, go to your local pc store!

http://www.christianforums.com/t4429972-help-me-shop-for-computers.html a link to build or buy a pc and some prices.On page 2 i posed links to a good $500 pc.(parts)

40 Gig HD
CD-RW
512 RAM
Intergrated Audio and Video

The original floppy drive
The original DVD-ROM drive (does not work with my mobo :( )

My laptop:

IBM ThinkPad T40
Pentium M 1.5 GHz
1GB RAM (bought with 512MB)
80GB HDD (bought with 40GB)
14.1' XGA screen
ATI Radeon 7500
Atheros a/b/g wireless LAN (bought with a Cisco a/b card)
CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo
External LG DVD-R/RW 16x dual layer burner (bought for about $80 AUD a few months ago)
External 40GB 2.5" HDD (my old hard drive in a 2.5" enclosure)
Labtec wireless keyboard/mouse
Sharp stereo used as speakers
XP Professional
PCMCIA USB 2.0/Firewire card to add to the 2 USB 2.0 ports on the laptop (makes 4 in total)

When bigger hard drives come down in price, I might buy an Ultrabay hard drive adaptor and have the 2nd hard drive in place of the optical drive, since the external DVD burner can do my CD/DVD work and I hardly ever have the need to use an optical drive when I take the laptop out of my house.

You realy need to start shopping at newegg.com.

The x1300 is equivelent to the 9800, but why not get a better card for the same price. This is an agp card i posted, but the pci-e are the same price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161052
X1650pro 512mb 128 bit with pixel shader 3.0. $135 before rebate - s&h.

Btw the x1300xt is supposed to be almost equal with this card. any other model of 1300 isnt worht getting. And why pay more for a 1300 than a 1600.

Though toms hardware isnt always the most reliable, here you go.
http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/01..._money/page5.html#best_agp_card_for_under_100
