  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

What do you do with your free time?

Just wondering what everyone does with their free time....aside from posting at CF!

Are there specific things that you do now (ministries, hobbies, etc.) that you might not have the time/energy to devote to if you had a significant other?

Is God showing you opportunities for ministry/service that you never dreamed you'd be good at?

I belive that He is for me. I am currently debating on going back to school to get an education in part time/full time ministry in Music and maybe youth.

But in what little free time that I have right now with all of the chior practices that I have no adays, (solo's regular chior, a mens quartet, and a tenor/bass ensomble) I have tryed to start reading more. I never did nlike to read much while I was in school. So it is kind of a challenge for me. I have started to enjoy it even tho' it takes me alot longer than most people.

I also would like to start fishing again (saltwater)

God Bless

I like to play with my guns, hike, four wheel, and read. Also I like to sing a little, but only in the car, shower, or while im at the computer. (don't want anyone ot here).
These things do not take the place of spending time with a s/o because I do not have one. I think God is trying to teach me a lot right now, some things really hit me today. As far as my hobbies being used for his glory, that is definately an aread that needs an overhual.

I never really list anything as hobbies for myself... its like this. I think I'm secretly like... ADHD or something. I get bored easily and I find it hard for me to sit through something long enough to pick it up as a hobby :sorry: :D

I do enjoy writing and theology/philosophy which do continue to be passions of mine.

I like to stay active. I exercise (walking-anticipating running again), kick-boxing, pilates, yoga (for streching). I stay pretty active in my church-I am on several committees and I like to work with our youth, I teach SS from time to time in my adult class, I am taking a Disciple Bible Study class, I take part in our puppet ministry and a handbell choir. Most of my close friends live away from me, so since I am single, I have the flexibility to go visit them when I can. It's harder for them to come to me because of children, etc...

I also enjoy reading. I do quite a bit of that. In the warmer months, I like to work outside in my yard and flower gardens. As a matter of fact, I just picked up a magazine yesterday that is the "how-to" on container gardening that I am hoping I can put into practice this spring and summer.

I think that it is important to establish who I am and set up some healthy habits while I am single so that if I do get married, those things will be carried over into the marriage. You gotta know who you are instead of letting someone else in a relationship define you.

Hmmm,

Lift weights and invest mostly. Weights is four days a week. Running two investment clubs takes up alot of time. My paintball outreach is in a slow down until the weather warms up, and I just became Treasurer of the College and Career class at Church, making me part fo the planning committee, so there's always stuff to be done there too. Having a second job keeps me busy too.

That's about it really. Fixing up the condo is a sparatic, ongoing event.

Wow, I could ramble on this and give y'all a good ten minute read but I've decided on Short Answers for the Cliffs Notes folks:

In my free time I keep busy with a lot! Occasionally I need a little time to just do next to nothing but I contend that life should have 500 Days a Year and each day should be 50 Hours long so I could get realy accomplish what I want to do in my life. It's so important to have stuff to do and for someone single tis really important. Activities help steer the mind away from longing for someone and longing can be easily dwelled on turning to loneliness and despair. While usually shortlived, such spells can take a toll on someone. We can always turn to God to help us alleviate darkness but it truly helps to have other things to occupy the mind!

In no particular order except the best I'll save for last:

I like to watch some funny TV shows such as Who's Line Is It Anyway and The Simpons and others, oh, and also Bugs Bunny & Looney Tunes cartoons. They never get old. You absolutely know Wile E. Coyote's gonna get crushed by the giant rock, over and over, but each time it's still so funny to me!! Absolutely one of the greatest things to relieve stress!!!

I watch movies, sometimes 1 a day, sometimes just 3 or 4 a week.

I love to read books: about half Christianity related, and 49% non-fiction other stuff and maybe 1% fictional novels.

I LOVE being outside usually hiking & backpacking with my dog, i go skiing & snowboarding, I climb mountains, I rock climb... if I couldn't enjoy the Earth God gave us I'd almost not want to live.

I love to travel and lately have combined personal travel with two week mission trips; hoping to do another later this year and I'm trying to decide on where to go. Also helping to plan a mission trip to Siberia for the spring, my first flight across the Bering Strait!

I volunteer with three local environmental groups to try and clean up military and mining pollution and to try and make sure ANWR doesn't get drilled into.

I volunteer between 1 and 3 times a week with the local food bank/soup kitchen and also with the Red Cross. I teach First Aid amongst other things.

I've got at least a good dozen books to write in my future, starting soon, so I spend time on the internet researching.

Also researching the feasiblity and establishment of a 1,000 mile long hiking trail across Alaska from the Pacific Ocean to the Arctic Ocean.

I'm a recently licensed pilot, right now for recreation, so I like to get out and just fly to practice and get some hours in. Within piloting I'm also taking more advanced lessons to move up the certificate food chain so should I ever wish to not be an EMT any longer I can eventually be employed to fly twin engine props allowing me to be able to better serve God as a pilot which is the sole reason I got into flying to begin with.

Some time here on CF.

And about half of all my free time is devoted to learning even more about God and God's word through reading, listening to sermons, studies, etc.

Yup, I think that about sums it up.

(There will be a quiz.)

Free time...what's that?? lol, I work a full-time job, part-time job, taking correspondance classes, am the youth/little kids leader at church, house/horse/critter sit for clients when needed, and have a housefull of my own critters to take care of. When I do have free time I usually spend it in front of the computer, although I love being outside, horseback riding, fishing, tubing, I also do cross-stitch, rubber stamping, beading, and a small amount of sewing. I love crafting, but my most favorite thing is to read...that's my escape from the world. Unfortunately I don't have much time for reading at the moment...gotta work on that one!

Free time? What's that? ;) There really is no such thing for me. I'm always either working, talking to my long distance fiance, spending time on CF, playing the game Dungeon Seige (my fiance got me hooked on it), reading, travelling on the bus, sleeping, eating, preparing for or teaching Sunday school, or doing things that need to be done like laundry.

I just started a night job working 3rd shift, so it has been hard to find free time, when I'm not sleeping. When I am a wake, I'm with my friends or being on the computer.
I do feel God id calling me to get involved in my church and become an active member, so I am excited to see what God has in store for me.

i'm in school again, so a lot of time is spent doing homework. but i'm in art school, so a lot of that homework is painting and drawing. so i paint and draw a lot in my free time. i read. right now it's more art historical stuff, but i still am always trying to find some new books. i also like to read stuff in french to keep my literacy up. i'm attempting to learn german. i work out, but that's usually only because i have to, not because i think it's really fun. i like to ride my bike and go for walks when the weather isn't like it is right now. i get really art dorky and go to museums and art galleries a lot. i listen and read up on new indie music cause i'm obsessed with finding new music. i love to travel, so if time and $ allow, i try and do that as much as possible. i'll go to movies sometimes. i'm sorta liking going to movies alone as of late. i don't know what that says about me, though. i'm thinking of getting back iinto playing tennis and maybe set up some sort of private lesson thing.
