Hi all

This is a bit of a odd thing really but a number of years back while out with my metal detector i found a knife handle which is Roman and the copper handle is of a Roman God not sure which one but may be Diana or Minerva. The iron blade has rusted away and the face of this fiqure on the end of the handle is still pretty clear.
As soon as i saw it it gave me the creeps and when i took it home my family said it made them feel the same......and recently on reading a book about things a christian should have at home and not what to have i did a prayer as told in the book and the first thing that come to me was that handle which i forgot about totally!
In all the years i have been doing this hobby i have never had this problem with objects found before but i have not found anything like that handle before.
Is the holy spirit telling me it is an real idol and that it may have been involved in something not good way way back? please advise.

why not take the knife to someone who may give you a little bit of history behind it. As far as your question,I'm not exactly sure what your asking? Go find out where the knife came from.

Hi Brent , and all ,

Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
<-----> 1st Corinthians Ch. 8

An idol can only defile our conscience if we attribute some degree of power or respect to it .

Idols are basically man-made gods which men gave characteristics to which suited their own pleasure , cause , or agenda .

Another plausible reason why this knife may be inclined to " give one the creeps " is because it likely was an instrument used to shed blood by a member of an oppressive regime , I say this because you've likely found old coins before which had pagan images on them also .

Perhaps you could sell the knife handle on Ebay and give the proceeds to the Red Cross or some charity which ministers aid to the victims of brutality .

Peace and Joy , In The Beloved .

hey that's interesting! :)

when I was very little, my Dad worshipped the buddha... and often asked us to pray to it... I did not tell my Dad... but the budha gave me the creeps... the statue itself, the smell, the red light (to this day I'm still afraid of red lights)... it had a haunted feeling... on the other hand I felt peace and love with church, bible, cross etc... I was barely 10 years old... no one ever taught me anything about religion or real God or Idols...

later of course I learnt the truth... I joined christianity... and I was no longer scared of the little budha statue(where's the mooning smiley? :D)... but I still feel the creeps in temples...

trust your feelings :) ... I think it's God's gift :)

When my brother was in the Navy, He went to the Virgin Islands and brought back a voodoo mask, with a face that looked like it was suffering.
My brother went through a lot of hardships, he was electrcuted and lost both of his legs above the knee when he was 21 years old, he lived til the age of 48, when he died of a drug overdose.
I am not saying this object caused any of this, don't get me wrong.
The object was left to me after he died, I kept it for about a year.
but everytime I walked past it, I got this eerie feeling, and when I looked at it all I could see in that face was my brothers misery, I couldn't take it anymore I took it outside and burned it.And I felt so much better, it was like a weight had been lifted from me.

Now I'm not saying that is what you should do, not at all!
I just wanted to say pray:pray: and trust your feelings, get some history, whatever, but if it is bothering you, it is probably for a reason.

Brother Brent,

From your post, I can tell that your consience is already against keeping the item. If you keep it, your conscience will not be at rest and you will not be in peace with the Lord. Anything that gets between you and the Lord is not worth keeping.

Your brother Rupert
