  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do I do now?

Hey Puppylover, congratulations on receiving Christ. I'm so happy for you! I think the priority right now should be finding a church that you can call home if you don't have one, and talking with the pastor/minister there. Maybe you want to join an Intro to Christianity course to learn how to deepen the new relationship (I'm currently taking a class now, it's great!)

Also, try to set aside specific time with the Lord each day where you can pray and read your bible. Don't be afraid to tell Him everything you're thinking, everything you're worried about, anything that is troubling you. He wants to heal you. You've already taken that first step by asking Him into your life. I've found that my time with God is the best part of my entire day, and I always look forward to being with Him!

Here's a website that can help you...read the part under "Living as a Christian".

If you're in high school or are high school aged, definitely tell the youth pastor.

What I hear recommended for a lot of new Christians to read first in the Bible is John or 1 John. (John is his gospel, 1 John is the first of his three letters).

Welcome to the family.

Dive into the word. Best place to start. Like some of the people have said, Is to start taking time out of your daily schedule to spend with Christ. Pray and Read his word.

By the way. Congrats In making the best decision you have ever made in your life!

I think one of the best things you can do is read the Bible and pray.

Find a church you feel comfortable in, if you are already in one, thats great.

Find a church thats going to help you grow as a christian.

One of the best things I found when I first became a Chrisitan is that being around other christian people really helped me. I get such a blessing from that.

Just let God lead you now and stay close to other christians, this is a really nice place. As you read ask questions, as you come across them.

When you come to salvation the Holy Spirit enters into your heart and in order to grow as a Christian you need to dive into the bible and apply the truths to your life. At times you will have to swallow your pride and change alot about your life. The hardest thing I found was giving up certain friends that will be detrimental to your walk. If you have friends that don't believe in Jesus or don't acknowledge him as Lord and Savior they will just be a form of temptation in your young walk. I am not saying you can't be their friends but spend more time in bible studies and getting into the word. You need to feed your spirit with the truth of the bible.

I would suggest that you save your money and ask for a life application bible. It has discriptions of scriptures at the bottom and has cross references to other scriptures in the bible. It also has intro's to chapters, maps, charts, and descriptions of the people discribed in the bible. They can range from $50-$90 but you will find it easier to learn what the scriptures are saying. Also do not speed read. Rather read slowly and focus on one chapter at a time and write down questions. I would try to find christian friends at school to do bible studies with and you can always ask questions here. We are all family now and have to help each other according to the gifts given us.

John 8:32 And you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Good luck in your walk.

as a lot of people have suggested, read the bible. start by reading the gospel of john. that's the best way to learn more about who Jesus was on earth, who he is as our Lord in heaven, and how He wants us to live our lives. remember also that a change on the inside also means a change on the outside - in other words, how you live your life must now change. remember that you're not living for yourself anymore, but for God now.

it sounds like you're going to church already, and that's very good. go and chat with the youth pastor/worker, and ask them the very same question you asked here.

hope this helps.
