I can't wait to read for pleasure.

But, I am reading the Bible.

I'm looking at my collection (my little library)! Its calling my name. But, nope, empirical studies and Bronfenbrenner it is at the moment.
Though, I have to say, I highly enjoy reading those. Some annoy me with horrible research, but others just do great work.

Plato's Republic mainly, but I also have Principles of Neuroscience and The Worm Ouroboros kind of in progress as well, with Aristotle's Nichomachean Ethics and the Aeneid in the wings.
The Republic is a very interesting book....it gives food for thought with anyone who is interested in politics or even metaphysics. It's such a broad book. :D

Nichomachean Ethics is something I still practice and somewhat read today. It's much easier to remember and do than that Jewish Torah crap. (Since we're not accountable to the Law, I can say that. :p) The ethical principles make sense. ;)

Does anyone else keep all the books they loved when they were teens? Half the time I can't remember where I came across them for the first time (at school? random find in a library?) but they impacted me and I loved them and I still enjoy re-reading them. I tend to really love the stories of suffering and struggle that girls go through, like "It Happened To Nancy" (true story of a 14 year old who is raped and winds up with AIDS, and eventually dies), "The Girl In The Box" (about a girl who's kidnapped and locked in a cellar with a typewriter, where she journals all her thoughts, until she slowly dehydrates/starves to death).

I just finished another one, "Dancing On The Edge" by Han Nolan; it's about a pre-teen girl who is raised on witchcraft and magic and all sorts of lies, to the point where her grasp of reality is completely broken and she spends every moment terrified and confused, and eventually she snaps and winds up in a psych ward. The whole story is so heartbreaking (there is redemption near the end, though), and sadly, I can relate to it, which is probably why I love it so much.
