  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm a KJV/NKJV kind of guy myself. The main reason is that I prefer the Majority Text for the New Testament and those are the only two (that I'm aware of) that make primary use of that textual tradition.

I read the original King James. True, there are some passages that seem vague, but I've received revelations as to what some of them mean after praying and asking the Lord for the interpretation. Sometimes the lack of clarity is due to translation limitations, expressions of that time and lack of tonality in the written word as opposed to a live person speaking. I don't want "man" telling me the interpretation is, as I've found some of them to be misinterpreted. However you interpret scripture, one must always view it in the context it was spoken in. Even a slight difference can change the true meaning significantly.

I favor the NASB, that being said... I grew up on the KJV and turn to it on a regular basis simply because of the "poetry" of it (for lack of a better word).

The reasons? I ran across this guy's page and his reason for the same and I mostly agree with it: NASB vs. KJV - Why I prefer the NASB over the KJV

knee-v, the 1865/1866 (I have paper photocopy of parts of it, legally photocopied by a librarian in the U.K. to me by postal mail) and 1912 Common English Version New Testament does too! If You want it, bid $40 or $50 at: English Bible Collection (27 vols.) - Logos Bible Software
... don't bid lower or it will never make it into production (confirmed by the Logos CEO Bob Pritchett)! The software is freeware.
Quote from the product page: "This revised New Testament was prepared under the auspices of the American Bible Union, by the most competent scholars of the day. They followed these rules for the revision:
  • The received Greek text, critically edited, with known errors corrected, must be followed
  • The common English version must be the basis of revision, and only such alterations must be made as the exact meaning of the text and the existing state of the language may require.
  • The exact meaning of the inspired text, as that text expressed it to those who understood the original Scriptures at the time they were first written, must be given in corresponding words and phrases, so far as they can be found in the English language, with the least possible obscurity or indefiniteness.
The American Bible Union published another revision in 1912. Both were widely used.":

I read them all. I tend to go to the KJV,NKJV or New American Standard if I have questions or I go to a version that translates word for word from the original text. For general reading, I like the NIV or RSV. I keep the Message handy because it is much more exciting to read although it is less technically accurate. The Good News and the Common English Version are easy to read and I will read it when I am in a Bible Study with people who do not read as well.

Biblegateway.com is a great online site that has all of these versions of the Bible plus many more.

In the KJV God said to eve - Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children

Her conception was indeed multiple as she had two sons , cain and abel , to be followed by multiple sorrows , one son is murdered , the other son is the murderer to which God banishes him for eve never see him again.

Yet when we read a modern version it appears as tho all women will have pain when giving birth . Think I will be staying with the KJV.
