It's stupid and self destructive and can hurt others with various drunken shenanigans, but since when is stupidity illegal? I don't respect people who do this on a regular basis, but I recognize their legal right to kill their brains and livers

What I had noticed about binge drinkers that I knew in college is that, as children, they were denied any alcohol by their parents. People who did not binge drink in college typically had alcohol as children under adult supervision, and were taught how to drink in moderation.

For instance, I drank very little alcohol in college (I got drunk maybe five times total), and I was given a glass of wine with holiday meals as a child.

People from Italy do very well when it comes to drinking in moderation, and largely because they are used to drinking wine with meals.

I'll tell you what I know. I've been in hospital for two days, had a major operation to repair a 6-7 inch wound that went through 2 muscles and basically half cut my arm off. Im typing with my left hand. I put my arm through a glass window and lost a lot of stuff.

By some miracle i missed the nerves. 80% laceration to ECU, 60% to ED, 40% to ERB muscle bellies. God looked after the rest but the results weren't pretty. Think of boned lamb.

That's binge drinking. Real binge drinking. Not the hollywood version. It can have serious consequences because the results of excess alcohol are very unpredictable. You're not guaranteed a good time.

Alcohol is nice but very, very dangerous. No one can really tame it. Unfortunately i'm still working on past issues that I have.

It's not healthy and bad for your walk. I dont recommend it. If you do drink please limit your intake. Don't binge. Have a good time and be safe.

Totally idiotic and stupid.

Not that I think it should be illegal or anything for people who are over the minimum drinking age to do that (and follow the law by not driving, boating, etc), but I still find it really dumb and pointless.

I just see no benefit from the activity at all, and a lot of risk (not even including illegal risks like driving under the influence, but risks like alcohol poisoning and personal injury). I also don't see how it's fun, but maybe that's because I don't enjoy drinking or feeling "out of control" of my body.

Binge drinking is a horrible conflagraqtion of 2 very different things.

Binge drinking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read the first section. Hammering down drinks to get as drunk as possible is a good way to die.

Now read the second section, with the definitiion used in the U.S. Call me 220 Lbs. Now let's say I go to a football or baseball game and put down 5 beers over the course of over 4 hours.

BAC Calculator // OADE // University of Notre Dame

That counts as binge drinking, yet I'm legal to drive with .02 to spare in the more restrictive states.

Now let's take something I've done several times. Last final done and last final not a fun one (a lot more fun for me than most in the class). Now 20 people from the class head to a mexican restraunt and start consuming pitchers of margariutas. Definately people drinking to get the effect. But the effect is relaxed and a little bit numb, not making it so walking is a major accomplishment. This could be called binge drinking. I do NOT see it as a problem.

I'll also point out that the stress on binge drinking ignores habitual use of alcohol. It treats the guy who comes home from work and has to have his beer or martini, perhaps a second and then splits a bottle of wine with his wife for dinner EVERY DAY as if he is just fine.

Sorry I see the later as the person with a problem, not the people in their 20s or 30s who party hard on one or two Saturdays a month.

I get that it's unhealthy (so self-destructive), but why is it stupid? And in regards to hurting people... hurting people is bad, and you can hurt people whether sober of drunk. Many people get drunk, but don't hurt others.

I don't respect people who do this on a regular basis, but I recognize their legal right to kill their brains and livers

Why don't you respect them? If someone isn't hurting others, what's you're issue with them?

:)

Totally idiotic and stupid.

Why? I mean, if someone understands the health risks, and accept them, in what sense can you say what they are doing is stupid? There's no lack of intelligence involved.

I get if you think it's pointless, I don't get if you think it's dumb. I think train spotting in pointless, but I don't complain if someone enjoys doing it.

Well it's fun to some people, and they accept the risks. It's fair enough if you don't see how it's fun, but we all like different things.

By the way, I don't think you feel out of control when drunk. Not as far as I can remember in my experience anyway.

:)

Hello:wave:,
For a project for Year 10 Christian Life I have to document some of the opinions/views of Christians and others on the topic of binge drinking.

It would really help me if you wrote your opinions in a reply

:) Thanks
TheImpossibleGirl

As with any type of human behavior, there is a psychological motivation that drives some to binge drink, binge eat or binge anything.

Tons of variables involved here and one of them is; inability to self control.

Basically, I think it's idiotic because people do, in my opinion, completely stupid things to themselves with drinking like that. It doesn't matter that I think it's stupid, people can still go do it. I just think it is. I don't see how someone could be proud of puking until blood comes up, or of peeing all over a couch because they literally lacked the muscle control or awareness to get to the bathroom.

Those two scenarios I have personally heard multiple people bragging about, by the way. Whether it happened or not, it's stupid to me to be proud of that.

No one gets hurt if I think what they do is stupid. A lot of people probably think what I do is stupid. That's cool.

Not everyone vomits or pees when they binge drink. It's kind of different for each person.

A 'binge' will also depend on what you normally drink, it might not be blackout-drunk material but it will be unbalanced to your lifestyle.

I dont think its good to call people stupid because alcohol affects us all in different ways. And we can all end up 'binge drinking' without realizing it.

I think unhealthy is a better word.

I think people 'brag' because they want to make light of a bad situation. The truth is that walking the fine line is kinda exciting when you start out, but as consequences pile up the mood all changes.

My first party was a binge drink. I vomited, but back then that's not what you cared about. I dont really vomit now which can be a bit of a worry, but other consequences started happening.

I just think these things are very hard to define because there is no universal experience.
