That sounds like a movie I'd like.Confucius
This movie doesn't dive into his teachings much. It's more focused on the chaotic world of ancient China that he lived in. A time of almost constant war when everyone was vying for power and controlled the commoners with fear. Confucius was controversial for believing society worked better when rulers set a moral example and the people were taught benevolence (more or less what we'd call brotherly love). He gets involved in a few battles and had a difficult life since he challenged the elites. Confucius and Jesus come from very different cultures yet both advocated for compassion.
It's a pretty interesting movie because it's way back when China was still burying slaves with the elites. Confucius' teachings eventually helped end that practice. That sounds like a movie I'd like.
The past few years we've been discussing the control the Romans had over the Jews when Jesus entered the world. It's been new teaching to me. It is like Confucius in that regard, he comes to a people needing rescue.
I'm about 3/4 done w/ Season 4. This is just a really well-done show overall. There's no bad episodes, they are all very good. I think swapping in for Natalie was nice just b/c it brought in some change, it kept it freshMonk Season 4
This is the first full season with Natalie. She is really refreshing. Natalie's consistent kindness is what someone like Monk needs and balances the comedy.
That's funny we're almost at the same spot in the show. Monk is pretty consistent. Season 4 had some standouts like the one where Jason Alexander is a competing detective, the one with young Monk flashbacks showing his first case, Monk getting amnesia, and the one where he goes to jury duty. Plus, the Halloween and Christmas episodes. Glad you are enjoying the show.I'm about 3/4 done w/ Season 4. This is just a really well-done show overall. The winery episode was pretty memorable. How he went there every year to remember his wife, Trudy. There are definitely some sweet moments in the show.Of those I've yet to see the amnesia & jury duty one. The amnesia episode is next.
Of those I've seen they are all good. The one where they're at the winery sticks out to me too of this season.
I still got to watch that someday. It's one of the kinds of movies 'everyone's seen so we're not gonna watch it' kind of thing.I re-watched Superman 1978.
Jor-El's speech is basically John 3:16. This is the most Christian secular super hero movie. It has one or two small flaws but I loved it. It's full of wonder. I love how it develops Kal-El's story. Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder are perfect as Superman and Lois. Their romance is sweet. The flight scene is iconic. I forgot how different this Lex Luthor is. He's an irritable criminal living underground (which feels like a Satan reference) and not an already successful rich guy. I like how he deals with Superman because he's an obstacle and not because he's obsessed with aliens. This feels like an origin for Lex which a lot of Superman stories lack.
That's understandable. Sometimes the originals aren't the best like most would probably call Nolan's Batman better than earlier versions. But I think Richard Donner's Superman is still the best in the ways that matter most.I still got to watch that someday. It's one of the kinds of movies 'everyone's seen so we're not gonna watch it' kind of thing.
That's a great clip! I listened to it. There were a lot more Bible references in movies back in the day.
