EDIT: ARGH multiple posts! May as well use this one to edit in my previous post since it's been pushed back to the last page...

I think that judging all music as evil or corrupting that can broadly be categorized as rock or metal is quite an unnecessarily close-minded thing to do.
I can understand your concern, but half of the people posting about possible anti-religious bands in this forum will not be Christians themselves, and the other half clearly will just avoid bands they recommend.

The important thing is not to let the mere sound of the band change your opinion; even the very heaviest genres have Christian bands

That being said I think it's equally as irresponsible to claim that no music can be corrupting. There are a lot of anti-religious or anti-Christian bands out there, and a lot with lyrics and themes not befitting of someone who is supposedly following God.

That being said, having a "Christian" member doesn't make the band fine for Christians, just like sticking feathers up your butt doesn't make you a chicken.
It's no argument to say 'such-and-such-a-band can't be bad for Christians to listen to because they have a Christian member'.
Point of evidence: Tom Araya from Slayer is a Catholic, as is Ralph Santolla from Deicide, one of the most anti-Christian bands in the world.

If you wish to have answers about acceptable and unacceptable bands then start a thread about it instead of borderline-trolling the Secular Music sub-forum.
That being said, if you wish to know of metal and rock that is either pro or anti Christian (or neutral) then send me a PM and I'll knock up a list for you.

Apologies about the multiple posting, it wouldn't let me put more than one video per post for some reason, and deleted the rest of my post if I did!

All three of these bands have songs specifically about Christ and God and Christianity (the first two songs are even covers of hymns!), but they're from the three (arguably) heaviest genres in metal. Don't judge a book by its cover!

There is a thing to be said about This thread. I understand where you are coming from... however. What someone listens to [music] isn't really other people's place to judge. Yes, I do though condemn things that the music may glorify [IE: certain rap artists condoning killing, drug use... etc]... but that does not give anyone to condemn someone for listening to any of those bands.

Funny thing is that when i went to Liberty university [a 'conservative' college of all places] for a weekend stay/visit, they had a karaoke party on the 2nd night of the event. People were singing both christian and secular music alike. I should know because I heard some guy butcher Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a prayer" and got emboldened to sing "Who made who" by AC/DC. No one attacked me... no one said anything mean.

So i'd watch your tongue, friend.

Well, we do have a thread about the Beatles being sent by Satan. The freakin' Beatles. Go figure.

Look, if you don't want to listen to rock music that's your call, but there is a time and place for badgering and this ain't it.

Having said that - any good music suggestions?

I love metal, my whole family love's it... does that make me/us a satan-lover(s)? No! I still love Jezus, but I love to hear drum's and keyboards and al the instruments playing. What they sing isn't that important, it's the music that make you feel good.

And if Black Sabbath or Judas Priest make good music but the lyrics are bad, just listen to the music . Notting wrong with that, isn't it?
Just listen to the music of Nightwish - Sleeping Sun. Even that is metal.

They are just what they are. I don't know about Sisters of Mercy, Black Sabbath, or Megadeath... but a lot of secular music is fine and actually has deep Christian undertones.

When Jesus condemned as "Satanic" various things, He invariably did that against the Pharisees.

Just because something has a variety of emotions - sometimes angry, sometimes sad, sometimes glorious - I think one needs to winnow out the surface and look underneath it all.

We do live in a Christian culture. There are a lot of faults in it. But, also a lot of good stuff.

wooooooooow where do i even start on this one?! alright there is obviously alot of ignorance in this thread but i know where 2 start. ok for those of who r not christians i cant beat around the bush on this, but seriously u shouldnt even b here. PWsoldier this isnt just some forum to say "yeah i like this band" or "no they suck". if u r here to learn about christianity i welcome u, but all i c is someone trying to badly influence others. as a christian i love u but honestly u have no business here. now ur probably like "yes it is look at the title u ignorant little kid" and that is true. but look at the website ur on. ur an athiest on a christian website who only wants to talk about music and not learn about God. u shouldnt b here. now gettin on the subject at hand. peanutbutter12..........lol dude reality check buddy. marylin manson's quote says one thing then contradicts wat he just said. i dont disagree that his songs have helped u realize some stuff in your life but do u realy want listen 2 a guy who hates us Christians? thats like falling for the devils lies. he makes us think something is good and we agree and follow his advise. but whos advise did u just follow? Oh but it was good advice!! yeah but in the end u realize u have been lied to by the master of lies and u wonder how? id get a reality check no offense. in addition if we met in real life could u honestly tell me that a satanic bands songs help your walk with God? if u could then u r a really good lyer. look at philippians 4:8 "finally, brothers, watever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable-if nething is excellent or praisworthy-think about such things." Honestly u cant sit there and tell me that certain bands like slayer, ozzy ozbourne, and other satanist bands like that can help u get closer to God. the songs themselves may help u, but once again look who wrote the song: antichrists. the thing is then its not just the good songs u listen to then u start listening to the bad ones and b4 u know it ur infatuated by him and no longer listen to the good songs but the bad ones. its simply a trap that u r getting snared in. so dont sit there and tell me "wat is bad for someone else isnt bad for me" because guess wat? we all have the same God who has the sme set of rules for EVERY christian. it cant just b good for u otherwise it should b ok the the rest of us. ur only fooling and decieving urself by saying that. bellicus i agree with u when u say "theres no such thing as music we cant listeb to" because ur right. God gave us the ability to choose. the question should b is there music that u SHOULDNT listen to? u cant rationalize something to make it right for u. IF ITS WRONG ITS WRONG. sugar coat it however u like but no matter how much icing u put on the cake, the cake is still burnt. also u mention go by wat feels right. u should know better than than to go by feelings. ill bet if u asked a christian who likes a satanic band "do u think u should b listening to this band?" he would say something like "no but it feels like wat i should b doing" wats wrong with that picture? "oh but we FELT it was the right time to have sex" *shakes head yeah it FELT right but how do u feel now? "like a sack of trash" my point remains. enough said

I agree...allm they need to do is get a copy of the lyrics, read and see what God tells them.
I also agree. Music isnt just music, there's always some kind of message in a song. We need to be careful of what we let ourselves see, hear and listen to. I beleive there is a verse in the good book that says something similar. I wouldnt take HIS word or instruction so casually.

Killswitch Engage... buddy youve come out firing.. but mate be carefull before you talk.
let me lay on ya a few little facts about the band your screen name represents.
Mike D'Antonio is influenced heavily by harley flanagan of the cro-mags, a non-christian band.
KsE have gone on north american tours like Ozzfest and Warped Tour, which include satanic and unchristian bands
and they have used producer Brandon O'brien, who has also produced RATM, a very unchristian band.

so by taking your arguement to the next logical step, those bands that associate with anti-christian and satanic bands should not be heard by christians because of that very fact they associate with them.

go read romans 14 bro. it talks about the issue of things that are neither classified as sin nor overtly good and whether it should be used by christians... helpfull for this topic

This is ChristianForums, where sound doctrine comes to die. If you're going to claim that some things are wrong or inappropriate for Christians to do or listen to, be prepared to be called every name in the book.

i agree with PEANUTBUTTER12 on a couple points but not all, if you dont like the music, dont listen to it.
i dont personaly listen to manson or a lot of the main guys, but dont get me wrong, i do listen listen to big players, but none that befame God. music is defined by a style of music. Metal, Punk, Rock, Country etc. are all music styles and without lyrics they are STILL defined by those names, because its just a style. now whether a band wants to take that music style and add bad lyrics to it, thats not my problem.

as for me, i am a musician, i play musical covers for these types of songs all the time. to ME they mean nothing lyrically because i have aquired the ability to block out lyrics when i want to. i like a lot of music styles and i asolutly hate when people talk crap about what i play or listen to. being a music teacher, my students bring me music that they want to learn, so i tab it for them. i spend so much time involved in music that i dont really care what the lyrics have to say, im just tabbing and teaching. if it leads YOU away from God then YOU dont have to listen to it, or tell ME whether it leads ME away from God. i happen to be in love with God, i lead worship at church and i have my own christian punk band. music is a big role in my life. besides, if the music stlyes worried you SOO much, then why do you even bother to go to the SECULAR SECTION?
