As the liturgical cycle comes full circle and begins anew, what are you looking forward to this year?

For me: I am looking forward to the Nativity Fast through into Theophany.

The Christmas season can seem so devoid of any aspects of Christianity in the US. It is such a beautiful part of Orthodoxy that it is far easier to keep the consumerism and secular aspects of it at bay. It is such a different form of anticipation and excitement from anything I experienced prior to becoming Orthodox in years prior.

Another: I am looking forward to the days shortening so that evening services take on that very different tone of candles, light and darkness as October moves into November.

Depends. I'm trying to figure out which job offer to take and that will determine which church I'm close to. So maybe a few things, the first of which would be finding a church to go to or getting more involved in the one I'm at now.

If I end up at a western rite parish (definitely possible with one of my job opportunities) - Advent. I love the way the western church celebrates Advent. Possibly my favorite season of the church; I love the musical tunes, the somber-but-joyous character that things take on in anticipation of the Incarnation.

If I end up at an eastern rite parish, I'll have to say Lent. I really experienced Lent and Holy Week for the first time this past year (the year before, I became a catechumen in the middle of Lent). I like the services and having so many of them. And Holy Week is magnificent - I'd love to go to even more services this year, and stay at the Holy Friday vigil all night to pray in front of the "tomb" instead of only going for a few hours.
