  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What Are These Stars Anyway?

Science teaches us that stars are suns and there are zillions of stars (suns). Well....hmmmmm.... I look at the book and see what it says about stars I start to get some strange ideas!

1. I can only find one sun in the book.

2. I find that God gave the stars names - Psa 147:4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Look at the word "their" -almost sounds "being like". Kind of like "I call my children by 'their' names"

3. These starts seem to multiply - Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven,

4. Stars fight - Judg 5:20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. Do "suns" fight? Just asking.

5. Stars are not pure? Job 25:5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. Some fallen angels are not pure either.

6. Stars sing? Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

7. There are stars of God that a bding tried to be axhalted above - not physically - Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God:

8. Stars get cast to the ground - Dan 8:10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.
Again, they fall - Matt. 24:29; Rev. 6:13; Rev. 12:4 - Wouldn't you think that if they are suns that they would burn up the earth if they got within a few million miles of us? Just asking - you tell me.

9. They are angels? Rev 1:20...The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

Now, you know where I'm heading - I'm keeping my mouth shut here - I'm just throwing out the verses. You tell me. :D

AV1611 just gave you some posts on how the book is light years ahead of science. We'll believe Star Trek movies and Star Wars but how about the book - it's wild, amen?!?!?!

Don't tell me this book isn’t something else!!!!

A sun is a synonym for a star. If you wish to get theoretically technical, one could argue that a sun is a star that hosts its own solar system of other celestial bodies. Even then, there are known other suns than our own. In addition, the odds are that there are many other planets that host complex life forms, and some of them will have "intelligent" life forms as well.

In addition, a star is indeed a mass of burning gas, powered through nuclear fusion instead of how a modern power plant works, with nuclear fission. In other words, power is derived from hydrogen atoms fusing together to form more "complex" atoms, mainly helium but also creating minor amounts of every other known (and theoretically, unknown as well) type of atom.

Some interesting stuff. :)

1. I can only find one sun in the book.

sun: shemesh, sheh'-mesh; from an unused root mean. to be brilliant; the sun; by impl. the east; fig. a ray, i.e. (arch.) a notched battlement.

If stars are brilliant, then they are shemesh.

3. These starts seem to multiply - Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven,

Naturally, the implication is that the numbers resulting from their multiplication is metaphorically comparable to "the stars of heaven".

4. Stars fight - Judg 5:20 They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera. Do "suns" fight? Just asking.

(Judg 5:20) They fought from heaven; the stars in their courses fought against Sisera.

stars: kowkab, a star (as round or as shining); fig. a prince:--star ([-gazer]).

Just as the sons of God are figuratively called stars, and just as Michael is a prince (Dan. 10:21; 12:1).

5. Stars are not pure? Job 25:5 Behold even to the moon, and it shineth not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight. Some fallen angels are not pure either.

Who was doing the speaking in Job 25:1?

(Job 25:1) Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

The knowledge of these "friends", and the value of thier words, are given to us by God in chapters 38:2 and 42:7-8.

6. Stars sing? Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Figurative. Compare Isa. 14:12 against Rev. 22:16.

8. Stars get cast to the ground - Dan 8:10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them.

The antichrist. When satan is cast to earth, his angels are cast out with him (Rev. 12:9).

9. They are angels? Rev 1:20...The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

They can be, figuratively. But just as the church is not a literal candlestick, an angel is not a literal star.

Did you know that the Orion Nebula [found at the belt of Orion] is called the birthplace of the stars?

Amos 5:8
Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name:

The twelve major constellations of the Zodiac are referred to in the bible as the "Mazzaroth."
