Being well read helps, the bible summarizes the commandments in a number of places.

His commandment is to Love God and Love one another. We do the best we can. Only the Holy Spirit can achieve pure love in our lives.

How do you keep the commandments in your daily busy lives?

The bible tells us to:

1Co 14:1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy.

There are two key areas, that I see in the word regrading God's direction for us:

1) Love and serve other people. The KJV of the bible says "follow after charity", instead of the word love. In our modern world love can be confused with lust, even our best intentions to show love can come from emotions, and desires. Love in the Godly sense is to help the poor and be kind and generous in relationships, James said it this way that "true religion in the sight of God is to visit widows and orphans in their time of need, and keep your self un-spotted by the world". There are so many verses that encompass what love is in the bible, it is putting others first, giving preference to one another, submitting to one another, etc, and many more. But also to keep oneself un-spotted by the world involves obeying the word.

2) The second key area is a little harder, it requires obedience to God, and the Holy Spirit. It is enabling God to work through us in miraculous ways. Such as healing the sick through prayer, seeing miracles in our daily lives. This step requires daily prayer, and dedication to the ways, and word of God. I find in my life that I only have a few examples of God working in this way. If I were more obedient to the Holy Spirt I am sure I would see more.

But the basics are:

Rom 14:17-19 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. Whoever thus serves Christ is acceptable to God and approved by men. So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.

Basically what God approves of is when our lives are filled with peace, joy, and love. Having faith in Jesus, not our own efforts, but living in a way that we attempt to move closer to Jesus every day. Denying sinful and worldly lust, but not being so full of fear that we feel we can not do anything natural. By that I mean we should not feel afraid to watch a movie, see friends, or do what we enjoy.

You aren't going to follow all of the 10 commandments, in fact you aren't going to follow any of them. You will violate them in thought, word and deed basically every day. That's not to say we should despair, we have an advocate with the father in the person of Jesus Christ. It's through his grace that we are sanctified. You obey his commandments by believing in him and being washed in his saving blood. With faith the father doesn't see the rotten filthy sinner you really are, he sees the righteousness of Christ.

We have to be very careful to not turn the commandments into a checklist, which is essentially what the pharisees did. I didn't murder anyone today so I don't have to worry about that. This isn't what Christ teaches at all, if you've thought negatively about someone or hated someone you have violated the commandment thou shall not kill. The slightest bad thought is a violation of the commandments and we do these things daily. We don't work as hard at work as we should, so we've violated thou shall not steal and thou shall not covet. The list is endless, which is why the commandments shouldn't be viewed as a checklist but rather should be viewed as something so broad that when we look at our hearts we see how desperately in need of Christ we are. That's how we follow Christ's commandments.

Very true - but they are there for a reason - and that is why we try not to hate (as hard as it is) and that is why it is important to repent EVERYDAY (not repent today and say I AM SAVED) no cos fact is you will fall down again.

Repentance is absolutely part of the everyday prayer life of Christians. Paul teaches us to search our hearts in preparation for the Lord's Supper. We're also taught in scripture to seek sanctification by faith. The Christian faith is not as simple as signing a get out of jail free card. It's an ongoing work of the Lord in our hearts.
