  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Neal,I don't think fallen angels is a correct term for them. Rebellious angels I believe is more appropriate.

There is a group of angels that sinned and are now in hell and they are what most people refer to as fallen angels but not all rebellious angels are in hell and Satan certainly is not one of them.

Fallen angels is simple a term for demons...they were in Heaven, rebelled against God and fought His angels and they were all cast down to earth. Hence the name...'fallen angels'.

Revelation 12

Satan Thrown Out of Heaven

7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them[a] in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

I agree with Whitestar. The term "fall" refers to a fall from grace--very much alike to the "fall" of humankind which occurred with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.

When Satan turned against God, he pulled a third of the angels with him. I don't know how he was able to do this or why they turned against the God which they know much more than we do, but they did and thus they are "fallen angels."

BTW, I tried typing in "what are fallen angels" at www.answers.com and I got a kind of unrelated response and couldn't really figure out what was bothering you.

In Christianity, a fallen angel is an angel exiled or banished from Heaven after not obeying God'smandate or rebelling against Him. After the First War in Heaven, many angels were expelled from it, therefore becoming fallen angels.

That about sums it up, yes.

Lucifer; although this word never refers to a fallen angel in the Bible. According to Christian belief, fallen angels roam the earth until Judgment Day. They are then banished to Hell.

Lucifer would be Satan, yes. And yes, on Judgemenet day they will be banished to Hell - or 'the lake of fire'. Although, many claim (and they have a point) that 'Lucifer' is not the correct name for the devil, since 'Lucifer' (which means bearer of Light) is not a personal name, but his status before he Fell from grace.

The site also offered various explanations as to why the angels fell, some quite interesting, some plain wrong. We do not know why they fell, we can only guess. But I can list those of the theories on the site taht either must be wrong, or which I highly doubt:

Number one, 'The different sides of God', is WRONG and goes against Christian belief. God does not have two sides, oned Light and one Dark. This is nonsense.

Number six, 'Sin'. I doubt this one. I don't think God created two groups of angels, one which he gave grace and one which didn't recieve it... he didn't then wait and see if he were right taht his grace was necessary, and were corect in his assumptions when the second group gave in to sin. They were all given the same oppurtunity to love God.

Number eight, 'Disobedience & Pride', WRONG. God never instructed his angels to worship Adam. But the thought that it had to do with men, is a coomon one and might b true. Some say that the angels were told about the Word being made flesh, but some couldn't accept that God would be human - since they felt themselves above humans.

And the last one, 'Obedience of God'. This theory basically states that God instructed the angels to bow to no one but Himself, then later he wanted them to bow to humans. But Lucifer refused, because he loved God so much. In this theory the fallen angels aren't demons, but rather misunderstoood creatures who's only crime was to love God, so... WRONG.
