• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

What about letting God do it ???

Hi,
I am new here. I dont usually post. BUT, I was and still am so surprised that after reading all the advice to help you stop smoking. Not one gave the advice to ask God. I read everything from "cutting down" to using chewing tabacco?? Most of us are incapable of quitting on our own and only when we admit we are powerless over this addiction and cry out to God for help will we ever be able to do it. I found a super website with information for christians trying to stop smoking. PLEASE check it out. I am new so I can write the link in correct format.
Christian Journey . com / godsword / quitsmoking . html
The page is actually a short bible study on what the bible says about smoking and how satan uses our addictions against us.How to triumph over this addiction with our Lord and savior Jesus Christ
Your sister in christ,
Heather

Hey Sarahleo. Thanks for the great point. Yes, it is important that we ask God to help us in all our trials. I have refrained from saying this as a key issue as this is open to Christians and non-Christians and want to help all people to overcome the huge difficulty they face when quitting smoking. I tried to access the website but it didn't work. I will try again later. It sounds like a great site and resource. God bless, Evie

Sarahleo, I agree with your point. A person should look to their higher power when facing a difficult task.

I also agree with Evie, in that Fellowship is an excellent support tool to add to your arsenal.

My point would be that God, Family and Friends can help to lend you support, but in the end, it is how you choose to use that support in helping yourself.

Besides, instant gratification only lasts an instant. Making an accomplishment, with work and support, lasts a lifetime. :)
