  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What a deal! :)

Momma dragged me out of bed this morning at 0600 to go to a garage sale in Whitehall. A small thrift store was going out of business, and there were supposed to be bargains galore.

It frosted here last night (yay--die, mosquitoes!) because I could see it all over the garage roof when I got up. It was still only about 38° when we got there, with a small, but potent breeze blowing. All I had on was a short-sleeved shirt with a thin insulated shirt over the top of that.....I was freezing, to say the least.

One of the tables had hunting gear spread all over it. It was all pretty neat stuff, but I only found one item that fit me (and it fit me perfectly, too---almost like it was custom made for me!), which was a vintage Walls hunting parka, an obsolete Realtree camo pattern with knit cuffs and an attached snap-on hood. I asked the lady, "How much for the hunting coat?" She said "$10.00." I countered with $5.00. She said "How about $8.00?" I said "How about $6.50?" She said "$7.00." I said "Sold!!!" I immediately put the parka on, and I was warm as toast for the rest of the morning.

It looks exactly like the one below, except, as I said, mine has a hood.

There was also a pawn shop going out of business nearby; we went in there and I got a bunch of DVD movies; Momma got some nice jewelry for cheap. The kids got some stuff for themselves, and by then it was getting on towards 1030, so we headed home. We all got something to eat and then took long naps.

I looked up the same parka that I bought on-line, and one like it goes for anywhere from $35.00 to $60.00 on ebay or amazon; I'm pretty pleased that I only paid $7.00 for the one I got. Plus it kept me from getting chilblains.

You got that right. A couple of years ago, Noah and I drove past one of those joint yard sale things set up next to a couple of clothing stores; I got three pairs of brand-spankin' new camo hunting pants for $15.00; two pairs were Trebark, the third pair Realtree. :) And, the guy threw in a fourth pair for free----the fourth pair turned out to be way too small for me, but they were gen-yoo-wine US Marine Corps issue from World War II: two-sided frogskin camo with a manufacturing tag dated 1944. :) They were also brand new and in almost pristine shape....a collector's item.
