I tried. I really did. I thought if I went into the other fora here and read around, posted some, got involved a bit in the fellowship and discussions, and took my church's (non-denom) icon here that it would keep me from being overly-much attached to this MJ forum ( ) and help me to remember not to argue and get too involved in the deeper theological discussions fleshing things out with you folks (have any of you noticed I can get a bit too invested?). And... I really enjoy reading in the other fora here as well, don't get me wrong. And, well... I'm not arguing (discussing intently, I mean) anything anywhere now, so... THAT's good LOL. (I have seriously gotten way too involved on other sites in the past, getting deep into theological argument/discussion and I just can't afford time-wise to let myself do that nowadays...)

Well, I did really try. But I have to say that no other forum here "does" it for me. I have had a terrible time not arguing the Messianic and or Jewish views/teaching/history on the threads I read in other forums here (I keep just clicking out of CF when I get to the point where I just want to LOL or post opposing information...). But this forum is where my heart is, here. So I'm going to take back my MJ scroll icon... and I promise I will try to just pop in and read and not get so overly-involved (and if you ever see me here all day long, remind me to go read a book or sing to my children ) but... will you put up with me even if I do? :o

Messianic subdivisions?

I, personally, think that one should have more than one icon they can choose, adding on adjectives instead of "denominations"

Perhaps suggest to Erwin animated denomination icons, which'll cycle through all that they chose?

The more adjectives/denominations that are highlighted and deligneated the more devisive the atmosphere

The fact is the MJism is rife with, as Yafet puts it, the colors of the rainbow ! Just what we don't need are additional specifications of Mennonite, Baptist, Calvinist, Armenian, Orthodox, Reform, Charismatic, Fencestraddler, Karaite, Rabbinite etc.

We find those things out while we go through the act of becoming a community - by talking AND listening to each other. General icons are helpful in a genre where you can't see how someone is dressed, or whether they cover their hair or their elbows and knees, or what bible version they carry to service. Those things tell us things we can't determine in this format - so the icon gives us a starting place to know where the other is "coming from." But in your service no one wears a sign that says "Calvinist" or Fencestraddler" - you learn those things by talking and listening, by becoming community.

Taking the MJ icon really only means you identify with the MJs somewhat more than another denomination. It does not force a particular "flavor" of MJism on one. You can be, and *everyone is*, one or more of the above divisions (and more not listed) and STILL be MJ.​

But further visual indications of the minutia of our diversity would only lead to more separation, not better understanding

Besides - the hour by hour traffic of change and modification alone would shutdown poor Erwin's brand new server!!!!

This was my basic logic in opposing the use of icons here: that they work against the unity of believers. I finally bowed to the logic of their being good timesavers for you mods, so then I argued for having the option of not having mine show. Erwin granted that, so I'm happy as I am: appearantly iconless. I'm good either way.
