It is about time for us to start researching our options with these. We're on a budget and invitations are not high priority to me; people will probably just throw them away eventually anyway. I was hoping some of you who have already dealt with invitations could offer some tips!

How many wedding invitations do you need?

We're actually going to make our own photo and vellum invitations but I only need about 25 or 30.

There are lots of "kits" out there though that help you print your own. All you really need is a good printer and lots of ink

We are going to need probably like 50-75, maybe 100, I don't remember the exact number from the guestlist right now but its somewhere in that range.

D, do you have links to where you go those invites you posted pics of? My cousin used one of those.

I'm not sure how many invitations we will need. I think we will need about 20 total invitations for my side alone. (1 to each household).

Twenty is how many your mom expected to actually come; the list of people to invite was longer.

You only send one to each household Melissa, not one to each person.

On the RSVP they indicate how many from their household are comming.

Those kits are actually available at walmart. The ones I posted were either kits of 25 or 50 depending on which invitation and the prices were around $20 per kit.

I have the same attitude about invitations - I want them to be nice for those that want to keep them, but most people are probably going to get rid of them. And response cards are just sent back to you so they don't need to be expensive.

We decided to print our own invitations and response cards at home. We went to a stationary store and looked at the wedding invitation paper ... nothing appealed to us that much so we looked in the other sections. My fiance and I both like the outdoors and hiking and we found some paper that has ferns, flower petals, and leaves imprinted on it. We both liked it because it represented us and it looked good. With the paper, response cards, and envelopes I think we spent about $1 per invitation (that doesn't include postage).

So I would suggest looking at other paper besides "wedding" paper. You may find something cheaper that still gives you the look you want. Also, limit what you put in the envelope so that you don't need extra postage - if most people aren't going to come then you don't need to include a map to the wedding or reception, for example.

I hope that helps.

I am aware of that. It does not change that the invitations for your side is still going to be more than 20.

I actually bought blank cards that came with envelopes, printed the information on the inside and used a nifty stamp in two different colors of ink on the front. They looked very cute. I wish I had a picture, but I did away with those when it became the ex.

How much of a budget? You don't have to say out loud here, but the answer is a lot different it "budget" means $.75/invite or $1.50/invite.

One recommendation is that, unless you think you really need it for some reason, response cards are not necessary. People should know they need to respond and they can get the return address from the envelope. I ignore them whenever I receive them and respond on my own stationery.

Here is an idea... don't use an envelope. I am actually going to set my future sister-in- law to help me with them... I am going to buy two sided paper with black on one side and my wedding color on the other side and fold them so that I will not need and envelope. On the outside I am going to use a ribbon with my wedding color on it... ribbon is cheap. You can get two sided tape for scrapbooking and use that to put whatever kind of dec on them... just an idea if you want something creative.

I got invited to a wedding recently via EVITE!
At first I thought, "nah" but when I got reminders and updates, it was actually quite cool and of course, it's free!

It's a good option if you're inviting lots of people. That way you can have the special invites that you hand to your top 20 guests and you can email EVITE the rest.

And it makes RSVP and chasing up RSVPs a breeze!

I have another invitation question. On the sample invite and in the editor, all the invitation formats just include the names of the ceremony and reception locations and not the addresses. I was told I should include the address, directions, and maybe a map in my invitations. I was thinking that I could just go and get some matching save-the-dates from Walmart and instead of using them as save-the-dates, use them as inserts where I could include the addresses and the link to our wedding website (where they can go to get maps, check out our registries, etc). Does this sound like an OK thing to do?

I think that is an excellent idea

(I can't see photos at work so I'll check out the invitation photo when I get home )
