  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good thread, Rad!

Webb Pierce was a Country & Western icon in his day, though most people today haven't even heard of him.

He had more number one hits on the Country charts in the 1950's than ANYBODY.

Webb refused to pander to the Nashville recording industry executives when they foisted "The Nashville Sound" on America in the late 50's. He stayed true to his Honky Tonk roots.

Pierce also left the Grand Ole Opry, because of their refusal to pay major stars anything but union scale wages. This helped lead the way for higher appearance fees for all stars.

Webb was his own man to the end. Because of his principled stand against the Nashville Country music establishment, he was denied a spot in the Country Music Hall of Fame until about ten years after his death. Most stars of his stature are elected to the Hall during their lifetime.

Most people today who grew up on pop country won't like and appreciate him, but he was an American original who went from a poor small town Lousiana boy to a wealthy Country music superstar.

Enjoy eternity with the Lord, Webb!
