  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To be honest, I don't think this is the kind of attack that gets missed the most. Now don't get me wrong - I think many people to not realize that spiritual attack can happen at all.

But the ones that in my view are most often overlooked are the ones that appear to the person to be leading them to a deeper or more ardent faith.

It's when he appears as an angel that he can be most difficult to see.

Like I sad, consider yourself very lucky.

I have not either but I have seen enough in the way of serious dysfunction to know the devil is real.

The "curse" can only be broken when the ppl want to commit their life to Christ and live that out.

anything that causes you to doubt- or want to give up- that's an attack. or if you keep committing the same sins over and over and over or if you have faults and vices etc that you want to give up but can't seem to...

all these are of our own doing yes, and concupiscence, yes but the devil uses them against us often and makes them worse in order to get us to walk away from God.

The ones who practice sin, they seem fine becuase they are already in the net.

Its the ones who want to break away from sin and like Paul says, "we don't do the good we want and do the evil we don't want..."

Man, while he is born again- whether he likes it or not, believes it or not- he is summon to a battle. A fight for his soul in ON. How do you arm yourself? Its in the bible to put on the amour of God and go to Mass and the sacraments and TRUST no matter how bad you feel about yourself.

If you feel God does not love you because you are bad- that's the devil. That's an attack. If you feel a confession was not satisfactory- that's the devil- that's an attack.

and I do not want this to be just about this but more about the fact that even though we know all this- He who is in you is greater then he who is in the world.

You have power in you to overcome and the power lies in your trust in God's mercy and love for you.

Also, when you live 20 years in sin and wake up one day and give everything to God... its not going to be all flowers and daisies and easy street.

You, we have habits and maybe so set in our ways and creating new habits might prove to be impossible and that is another source of attack. The devil will use your habits against you as well.

In my opinion, facing trials is an important part of growing spiritually. In my case, the stress was so high during the worst part of "the haunting", I felt like I had 2 choices--give up and do what-ever I wanted to have fun (to forget about my problems) or let this experience allow me to grow as a Catholic. Since I chose the latter, I knew in the back of my mind things were going to continue to be rocky. But--I've found the path I'm on to be so much more rewarding in the long run.

As far as less dramatic attacks, I find that putting something into my routine helps. (Like having an exact time to pray or read the bible every night.) And realizing when things are going wrong, that it may be God reminding me that I need to do more to grow closer to Him. (Go to Mass more, pray more.)

I read Anne Rice's conversion story (and no, I never read her vampire books.) I got the strong impression that her conversion was far from orthodox and doctrinaire. She was still a strong feminist and a strong believer in gay rights.

She returned to the Church after her near-death experience, but she returned to the Church despite her disagreements, not because she no longer disagreed.

Perhaps some people tended to idealize and romanticize her conversion. I found it romantic myself....she was literally swept off her feet.

But I never deluded myself into thinking that she was going to be anyone other than who she had always been.

I forgot to add (in my case) I asked my Priest for holy water and he gave me his own personal container. I walked through my new house (I moved out of the old very haunted house). I prayed over the house while walking from room to room. I put holy water on my doors (and above my doors). My Priest offered to come over and bless my house, but to be honest, the happenings began again at the new house and I was embarrassed to have anyone see the craziness. Back then, I thought maybe it was my fault that these weird things were going on. (Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough to be Christian, wasn't praying enough, going to Mass enough, etc.) In the new house, the TV would go on and off by itself and doors would open after you closed them. It was crazy, but not as bad as the old house.
Anyway, the holy water helped a lot. (I forgot to say that in my last post.)

The more i read the more i am under the impression that your husband may have made a pact that the devil could have you as well as himself, if he attained something earthly...monetary - or whatever.
I dont know.

But satan wont leave you alone because your husband may have had ties [he hopefully regretted in the end] but satan is trying [overtime] to get what was promised him?

Get St Benedict medals to put over each of your doorways. make sure they are blessed.
And pray to St Benedict.
Powerful intercessor against satan - as well as St Michael the Arch Angel.
Pray to the arch angel lots and lots. Maybe 3 times a day or 12 or however much is needed. Make it increments of 3 because t is such a good number.

You are in good company - St Pio, St Therese or was it St Catherine? , and a few others had the same problem. So do not be discouraged - she was a doctor of the Church was said to be asleep and being woken by satan she would say 'O its just you' and roll over back to sleep.

Thanks...I have to dash off to a doctor's appointment, but I wanted to say that as I read your post I got chills. Especially when I read "monetary" because my husband was obsessed with money--obsessed! It was on his mind 24/7. And he had a really good income, so there should of been no reason for him to think about money so much. But, for all the money he made, at the time of his passing he was flat broke. To this day, I have no idea where the money went. He would cash his check on a Friday, and be broke by the following Monday. I had to borrow money from my parents for the funeral--it was a disaster! Anyway--when I read that he may have had a monetary attachment of some kind, the hair on my neck stood up.
I'll post more when I get back from the doctor's.
