If we read what man has written and think that they were speaking against obeying what God has commanded, then we have three options:
(1) Think that we have correctly understood them, that what they said is false, and that what they said is not Scripture.
(2) Think that we have correctly understood them, that what they said is true, and that we should obey man instead of God.
(3) Conclude that we must have misunderstood them.
If we affirm the truth of Scripture, then (1) is not an option, and if we affirm that we must obey God rather than man, then (2) is not an option, so if we affirm those things and think that a verse from Scripture is speaking against obeying what God has commanded, then we should conclude (3) that we must have misunderstood it.
