And the votes are tallied, we can declare a winner.
The Mariology sub-forum is the meanest place on CF, oh GT gave you a run for your money but you got the job done.
Mariology sub-forum do you have any words to say?

“Well I just want to thank all the Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox who made this possible”

Rhamiel,
I know you're tender hearted.
Your posts are always nice and
informative.
But to be honest, I think the
posters have been pretty congenial,
considering the subject matter.

Hiskid "What defines "mean"? Do us who just believes she is "blessed" and reject assumed titles? Or by unkind comments? Thanks..Kim"

unkind, i know a lot of people dissagree with the titles Catholics give Mary but sometimes this place gets a little heated. Maybe i misunderstand what people mean

What I don't understand is the ones that don't want to be here to discuss it, they just come here to say how gross it is, etc etc. At least at GT people try to make points. Here they just straight talk trash, and don't even know half of what they are talking about. Lots of lies and misinformation fly around this board.

And the sad part is that CF allows all the lies and trash talk. I have been taking advantage of the ignore button now, because those people who are coming in to just trash talk...are just ignorant people and they will have to defend themselve's to God in the end...just pray for them, poor misled souls!! It's something I swore I wouldn't do, but it is obvious to people that they are just coming in here to bait and tear apart Jesus' Mom.

No, people don't all have to agree with Catholics, not at all in fact, but they can use compassion and love when referring to the Mother of God...or anyone's mother for that matter!!!

Rhamiel,
How mean and out of character for you to do this thread. ;)
Defend the faith my brother, anything one cannot defend with all their heart, should be checked at the door.

This stuff isn't about post and run! we sincerely are troubled by much of it, even after you explain why! it for many of us doesn't align with scripture and that is a problem. For you "the maxim" says it doesn't have to, only tradition. We'll forever fight this one as we don't believe that your church is "the Word of God".

WOW. Up until now, I've done my level best to avoid this particulr sub. However, like the proverial cat, my curiostity has overwhelmed me. Let me say, my worst fears were WAY off the mark.

Looking at the various threads, I've discovered more back-biting, name-calling and cries of hell-fire than I can say here w/o offending. I find it funny that, in a forum devoted to Christ's MOTHER, we indulge in this sort of anti-Christian behavior. Appalling. Apparently, even though we are called to love one another and even though we are all (presumably) adults, we, and yes, I'm including myself, use this forum as an opportunity to bash Catholics for their veneration, Protestants for their "apparent" lack thereof, and everyone else is apparently hell bound. So much for Christian love.

What prompted this outburst, though, wea the posting immediately above. An off-topic remark (like this one isn't...) ending in a "we'll continue you to oppose you, you scurvy snake" sign off. Yes, I know that wasn't what was said, but that's the impression I got.

Sorry for venting, but for Heaven's sake, let's ALL grow up.

Forgive me.

Then this isn't the place for you.
Some peope are too gentle and sensitive
for debate.

I have seen a lot of respect on all sides
myself,
To be honest, the orthodox seem even
the most respectful.

Apparently, even though we are called to love one another and even though we are all (presumably) adults, we, and yes, I'm including myself,
Love=truth.
I haven't seen a lot of hate here.
If there is, it isn't due to the threads,
but rather a heart issue.

use this forum as an opportunity to bash Catholics for their veneration, Protestants for their "apparent" lack thereof, and everyone else is apparently hell bound. So much for Christian love.
I have seen no one bash protestants for
their lack of veneration.
The only hellbound I've seen had little to
do with Mary.

Scurvy snake?
I got a much different message.
Sorry for venting, but for Heaven's sake, let's ALL grow up.
This is a debate forum, people will question
your (my) beliefs.
If they don't stand, we're all the wiser.

This is a good thing no?

Look at a coule of my threads in GT.
Sabbath day
Sabbath rules
Idolotry.

There are so many different answers on
each thread that it's obvious that there's much
learning of what is true that needs
to be done.

You want truth?
I sure do.
I want to know which day is God's sabbath.
I want to know what God requires of me.
I want to know if I'm idolizing something.

So there you have it.

If you think striving for truth is ugly, then
you should find a sweeter smelling
forum.

"but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence," (1 Peter 3:15).

Phil 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.

Is there a such thing?

I don't mean to offend. I honestly want to know.

I don't see how the doctrine in the Bible on gentle love can be reconciled with a lot of heated debates found here. Aren't we instead acting "all too human"?

I should also note that I am reprimanded by the verse as well, so I'm not excluding myself in this critique...

Forgive me...

edit -- In quoting simonthezealot, I'm not directing the question to him necessarily (even though he's free to answer :) )...it's just that he posted the Bible verse that came to mind before I did. Just to be clear...

Hi Rowan.
You're not offensive.

I don't think one can be too gentle
or too sensitive.
Or too rich or... jk.

I mean for debate forums.
Sometimes a plain statement
can seem offensive, yet if it were
spoken face to face with the more
gentle voice, concern showing in
the eyes etc. you would see that it
wasn't meant insensitively.

That's all I meant.
I'm a very gentle sensitive person,
but I can handle the debate forum
because I don't see it like you
do evidently.
I don't see disagreement as
fighting.
I feel closer and closer to those I
debate with, or more like banter
back and forth with.
I dont know that they feel that same
way, but that doesn't matter.
That's between them and God.

Anyhow, that's just one persons
view.
But those who don't feel that way,
shouldn't participate.
They think we're all mean, Catholics,
protestants, and otherwise.
We're all just musing.
If you read the threads in that light,
listening for the gentleness in the voice
that doesn't come through as clear
in type, you might see what I mean.

And then there are always the odd rude
ones. Same as in person you will get
rude and kind Christians alike.

imo.

That's true. I also feel that actually being able to talk face-to-face affects alot of our interactions dramatically. Downside the internet: it's easy for our brains to think we're talking to a text box instead of a person no different than ourselves. Smileys and CF characters help, but not much.

That's a very mature stance to take.

Personally, I feel that the oddities can be the loudest, so they command attention. I don't know any stats, but it probably is the case that most of the discussions on the debate forums are cordial, but, unfortunately those soon fade from memory, and the oddities remain. I think that it is there where the complaints lie (and hard to reconcile with Christian love), not in the mature viewpoint you expressed above.

I do agree that such is the way of the world.
