The co-founder of a fundraising group linked to Steve Bannon that promised to help Donald Trump construct a wall along the southern U.S. border was sentenced to four years and three months in prison on Wednesday for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from donors.

It is unfortunate that the decorated Air Force veteran got involved in this.

According to your article the Redoubtable Mr Bragg is after Bannon on state charges connected to wall fraud.

"Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg brought new, state charges against Bannon last year. He is awaiting trial. Presidential pardons apply only to federal crimes, not state offenses. Bannon has called the case “nonsense.”"

Steve Bannon failed to pay his lawyer — and now it's coming back to haunt him: report

According to a report from the Daily Beast's Jose Pagliery, Bannon stiffed longtime attorney Robert Costello, a former federal prosecutor, and a judge has ordered him to pay the $480,487 that is way overdue.

For his part, Bannon has asked a judge to keep Costello's law firm from reviewing his bank statements, with Pagliery writing, "a request that has required Bannon to awkwardly concede that his personal finances likely have evidence that could bolster the Manhattan District Attorney’s case against him," involving fraudulent fundraising to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

Bannon's current attorney, Harlan Protass, admitted as much in a recent filing, writing ... "post-judgment discovery from Mr. Bannon poses a significant risk of compromising Mr. Bannon’s Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination."

[Likewise, Bannon's lawyer wants to keep Bannon off the stand for the same reason.]

Steve Bannon to go on trial in December for alleged fraud in We Build the Wall fundraiser

During a brief hearing on Tuesday, prosecutors said they would take three to four days to present evidence. Defense attorneys expected their case to last two days.

Bannon, who is currently serving a federal prison sentence for contempt of Congress, did not attend the hearing.

Prosecutors sought a trial date in November, but Newbauer said that was too soon since Bannon will not be released from FCI Danbury until October.

Financial records show Kolfage was paid according to a secret salary arrangement -- an upfront payment of $100,000 and monthly payments of approximately $20,000.

Kolfage was sentenced to 51 months in prison in April 2023 for his role in the fundraiser, which generated upward of $25 million in donations.

Bannon is out, and back in court.

Bannon's trial is scheduled for Dec. 9, but he is trying to push it into January to give his attorney extra time to prepare.

The charges, brought by the Manhattan district attorney's office, resemble federal charges for which Bannon received a pardon by Trump on Trump's final night in office during his first term. The pardon only applied to the federal case and did not preclude state charges.

Bannon gets more time, so the Prosecution can enter more evidence.

The trial is rescheduled to start on Feb. 25, reported MSNBC's Adam Klasfeld.

The judge allowed prosecutors to introduce evidence about financial transactions involving Bannon's nonprofit organization We Build the Wall and his American Express card.
