Hi everyone, I originally posted this in the sports forum but I don't think anyone there was particularly interested.
After watching the coma-inducing olympic men's team fencing the other night, I think the sport needs to be shaken up a little bit... Rather than having these slow stuffy matches on little runways, they need to have some different levels-- ship deck, King's banquet hall, tavern, maybe a spiral tower staircase... Don't stop after every point, give the participants lots of ropes/chandeliers/etc to swing from, bannisters to slide down, lots of obstacles and things to throw, etc. and give bonus "style points" for daring acrobatic feats, unorthodox fencing maneuvers, witty taunting, etc...
Ok, the fencing purists can keep their version; methinks though that "Swashbuckling" would make a much more entertaining olympic event!
