This is posted on General Theology, wasn't sure where to post it and is a bit of both!
I got a book off the internet called Basic Elements of the Christian Life.
Now the book was free but something doesn't feel right about the book.
With names of witness and watch it does sound like jehovah witness.
I can't judge to quickly, but it feels that there is something against this book, like the Holy Spirit is saying no to it.
The internet seems to have a mixed views on this, I need to be sure if it turns out jehovah witnesses, the book will of course be ripped apart, if not I will try to read it.

Thanks and I God bless in advance.

This is a good overview of Watchman Nee: Apologetics research resources on religious cults and sects - Watching Out For Watchman Nee

Witness Lee is a disciple of Watchman Nee who founded the "Local Church" called "The Lord's Recovery" by followers. Many, not all, cult experts have called it a cult.

Lee was a modalist, that is he rejected the Trinity. He also taught that believers become both divine and human like Jesus, called mingling.

They have one church per town. You may have run into parts of it without knowing it. Living Stream Ministry (publishing arm), Sword Distributing, The Lord's Recovery, Church of Recovery, Bibles for America, Bibles for New Zealand, Christian Websites, Amana Christian Bookstore, and Emanna are all part of it, something often not revealed. They publish the Recovery Bible.

They tend to sue anyone critical of them.

So they aren't Jehovah's Witnesses, they follow other prophets and apostles.

It is VERY important that you not confuse Witness Lee--who did indeed wander off into heresy--with Watchman Nee--who is one of the greatest expounders of Christian teachings in the 20th Century and a martyr to the faith. Watchman Nee's most famous work--THE NORMAL CHRISTIAN LIFE--is a peerless life-changing classic of the faith.

PLEASE don't make the mistake of lumping these two together!

IN CHRIST,

I haven't read Watchman Nee in years. But what I remember of his books, he calls people to an intensity in prayer and fasting.

It is equally heavy reading, and could steer a person toward legalism, or at least fear you're never doing enough for God. But he's not Jehovah's Witness. I had the impression he was Charismatic.

Nee impresses individual accountability. I think that Lee was more congregation - minded. But they had ministry connections or overlaps.

I think that many authors write out of reaction to a need or imbalance, or in response to cultural mindsets. Even though truth should be stable and constant, there are times we need one piece of advice more than others.

I don't consider it safe to read anyone's writing as complete truth, so I see less harm in reading one or two books of someone who might be slightly off base. As long as you decide to disagree with the author when certain points don't sound correct.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

1 Peter 5:8, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

1 Timothy 4:1, Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils.

Colossians 2:8, Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Proverbs 14:12, There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Why do you waste your time and mind for that when you need that time and mind for GIVING IT ALL TO GOD

GOD demands that you give HIM your WHOLE heart, mind, strength, and soul. That means you go in prayer and tell GOD that you will do this and from that moment on seek GOD in all your decisions. Then pick up GOD'S ROAD MAP to the KINGDOM of ALMIGHTY GOD ( BIBLE ) and start reading the NEW TESTIMENT till the next time you read it you will already know what IT'S going to say. For then it's locked in your heart to draw from for the rest of your life. You will NEVER be sorry you did.

After this is complete GOD will know. For HE searches the heart. HE will then send HIS HOLY SPIRIT ( ANOINTED-BORN AGAIN- SAVED ). For it is then that you shall receive the MISSION GOD has for just you and supply all your needs, even what you have not the ability to have.

Do yourself a BIG FAVOR and Start right now!!!
