Was the resurrection a supernatural event?

Do you guys think that the resurrection and ascension to heaven was a supernatural event (ie does it defy natural laws)? Or, could god have caused the resurrection (and ascension to heaven) to happen via natural laws?

And even more importantly, do you have any sources to professional philosophers/theologians who agree with you?

This post is intended mainly for information gathering. I may ask follow up questions but I'm not looking to argue with anyone.

I have been in healthcare for over 20 years and I am not familiar with any natural law where it would be possible for a dead human, to suddenly rise from the dead after three days.

So, yes, it would be a supernatural event, IMO.

What about back in the day though? All kinds of diseases could mimic death, right?

Saying that something could deceptively mimic resurrection has nothing to do with whether resurrection from the dead is a supernatural event.

Yes, of course it is supernatural. We have no natural reason to believe that death is a temporary state.

As far as the ascension is concerend, it could have been done with a plane, a helicopter or a rocket.

Yes, of course it is supernatural. We have no natural reason to believe that death is a temporary state.

Try to look at my post in the context of a response to the post I replied to.

Only reason I brought it up was I remember reading about coffins with bells and strings so that people buried alive (because they were believed dead) could notify someone.

Sure it was.
The laws of nature say that when a person dies and remains dead for three days that they're clinically, actually, dead.
Jesus resurrecting from the dead, overcoming those laws that pertain to this dimension, was unexplainable by natural law. Therefore it was supernatural.

...if it actually happened, as told in the story. There are more parsimonious explanations.

Cholera can make you look really dead. I think there's another disease too that does something similar.

Let's say that the Resurrection and ascension occurred through some naturalistic process presently unknown to us- say Jesus was an alien who was beamed up to the flying saucer he came to Earth in. (Or any other outre but natural course of events which looked to the people of 33AD like something only a supernatural power could do.)

Would anyone here then still be a Christian, if you knew for a fact that the Resurrection was not a supernatural event? Would it have the same redemptive power? Can your faith be based on something natural, fantastic though it may well be?
