Take the current examples in the Ukraine and middle east. The middle east is at war for "religious" reasons; the Ukraine has been fighting a subdued war with Russia for territorial advantage.

Those are the usual reasons for war. Countries always need to be able to defend themselves against aggressor nations. Nations which can't defend themselves get taken over.

I think the middle east is at war for economic reasons. Oil is big money.

I think it was Clausewitz who said "War is an extension of politics".

When one human being tries to impose his will on another the way this is accomplished is by exerting power.

There are different forms of power: Money, Intelligence, Sex, Violence, etc

War is nothing more than a form of power. If I am Country A and I wish Country B to do X, I can offer Country B money or some other item of value. I can try to persuade Country B through argument, I can try to make an agreement/arrangement with Country B or I can compel Country B through violence (War).

There is a fallacy that occasionally surfaces that claims violence never solves anything and that violence is not an effective solution. The reality is anything but. Violence, like any form of power, can be an extremely effective solution if employed properly. Hell, even when it isn't applied properly it ends up bringing about definitive changes and results. Whether those changes/results are good or bad is usually a matter of interpretation. But the fact remains that violence (War) will always be a tool in the tool kit when discussing human interaction.

One question. Why do countries not say they don't like war and don't want to go to war yet they continue to develop weapons/armies???

God Bless

On one hand, a nation needs the power to protect itself, or allies that do, or it will run into some problems down the line.

On the other hand, no country is entirely truthfull when it states that it doesn't go to war. What it means is "I do not want to go to war at the present time and for the present reasons". Any country can and will go to war if its sovereign deems the war neccessary, profitable and likely to be won. It's just that for many modern country that this isn't going to happen.

I heard about "All wars are bankers war". Wars are good way to make good fortune. The banks can loan money to both sides of countries, charge with a delicious interest rate, the taxpayers are good collateral, guarantee return. If the countries can't pay back, the banks and its corporations can take the country's valuable resources.

Then the weapons, bullets, guns.....companies will instantly make good profit.

All in all, wars sharply decrease prosperity. Countless manhours and recourses are put into making stuff that basically destroys itself while destroying other stuff.

You have to maintain a modern army or you become apart of a country that has one.

You have to defend what is yours or someone will make it theirs.

what makes a defensive army verses an offensive army? The power of the countries around you, and the value of your resources. (oil etc)

Also if you are part of an alliance, the others in the alliance expect you to offer help if they are attacked, all the while defending your own borders.
