• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

for anyone who is wanting to quit using nicotine patches, gum, or lozenges, I think I may be of some help to you.

the problem with these over the counter products is that they are sold next to the cigarettes and other tobacco products, as opposed to in the pharmacy, where you can get expert advice from the pharmacist on how to use these products correctly

I am a pharmacy intern, meaning I am in pharmacy school. If any of you would like some help to get started, feel free to post in this thread, or PM me if you would like some privacy.

I pray that you all succeed in your goals to quit smoking

I tried champix (Canadian) I forget what the american name is but it helps but its also about training your mind and keeping urself occupied. Healthcanada is warning against using champix because of it making people fell suicidal and causing heart related illnesses. I would try could turkey first before.anything and have a lot of support to go through it best of luck

Would love to have some tips on how to quit!

in the United States, Champix is called Chantix. it is used as last line of therapy for those who have tried and failed multiple times.

I personally do not like it and would rather people try other methods first. mandamandrell, have you tried anything to quit? cold turkey is very hard to do, but with the help of nicotine replacement patches or gum, quitting is very possible.

feel free to PM me or ask any questions in this thread. if you are interested, I can help you pick out a good 12 week plan to get you off cigarettes and patches completely.

oh, and don't forget prayer :) it works wonders

they put them next to the tobacco products, because they are made by the tobacco companies, these products keep you hooked on nicotine.

there is a really simple way to get set free from nicotine, and the best part is you can smoke as much as you want.........if anyone is interested respond you will be completely withdrawl free in a matter of a week or so

please do not be misleading to those who are trying to do something positive in their lives by quitting smoking. those products are made by FDA approved pharmaceutical companies and are made to help people quit smoking.

you stated that one can smoke as much as they want? isn't that counterproductive to this thread?

I am curious to find out what solution you have to offer. would you be willing to tell us about it in this thread? or PM me. thanks

sorry this is so late in arriving, I didn't see anyone posted a respones

the withdrawl free way to quit smoking is three simple steps
1. smoke as much as you want
2. always without failing, you must always smoke ALONE
3. this is the hook! when you smoke make this your prayer time, if you were like me, and smoked a pack a day, I found myself praying 20 times a day for 8 minutes.

word will get back to the devil, and he will set you free from nicotine himself, (as he is king over all addiction) as you will be reaking havic on his kingdom from all the prayers you are lifting up.

within a week or two, you will be strangly surprised that your craving for cigs will have completely left you, you will like me begin laughing as you sit between two smokers and have absolutely no craving whatsoever, and I had been a smoker for well over 25 years.

this technic was shared with me after I had struggled for years to quit smoking and had no success, if you follow the 3 simple rules, without waivering you can be free too!

Wow! I like that response. I've never thought of trying that. I have tried everything to quit smoking. I'm actually embarrassed about my smoking habit now that I'm getting older, but I just can't put them down. Christians judge me when they find out that I'm a smoker. Strangers judge me for smoking, because I'm a mother. I am always self conscience about the smell of smoke on my clothes and hair. I hope this helps me, as it did for you! Thanks for sharing!

Hey all. I started smoking at age 13, hevily at around 14. I smoked non stop till about 4 months ago (besides one year in jail). Ill be 20 in may. I know this may not be the prettiest advice persay but you must want to quit. yes that is a very general statement but its true. Dont let it get to the point of coughing up blood or getting amonias, largengitous like me. Thank god i dont see any signs of permenant asthma, but my point is not to scare when saying that. My point is that you dont have to let it get to that point. If you are a christian thats wounderful and ask for strength to quit and by that strength your willpower to stop will be much stronger then an unbeliever in a similar situation.

The main advice i can give though for once you give up the cigs jacks fugs smokes cancer sticks is, COLD TURKEY. no nicoteen patches none of that. IT prolongs it and develops even more of a mental addicition. So be ruthless and once you quit quit. Send that cig of sin to the wolves!

I dont mean to be OD but its true cigs are the worst manee !

I have quit many times 3 or 4. I realize that quitting is a process. To begin with make it inconvenient to smoke: for instance keep your lighters and cigarettes separate, for instance keep your light locked in your glove box and your cigarettes in a closet, AND don't smoke in the car or in your house.

I am proud to say I havent smoked in 10 years and 7 months, I never ever thought I would or could quit smoking, I tried numerous times over a 22 year period and failed. I used patches for 12 weeks and apart from those first 3 days it was a lot easier than I expected. I believe the secret to my success was taking it hour by hour, then day by day, then week by week.

If you have any stress or drama, refrain from using the event as an excuse to start again, if you make it through extreme stress then you are on the road to recovery. Its all in your mind.

I agree with you. The best way is cold turkey. You will feel like crap the first few days, maybe weeks. Remember MIND over MATTER. Don't start overeating either, a lot of people who quit smoking make that mistake and then they end up having to lose all that weight -just stop smoking. I suggest you take up exercising. It will help you a lot in your journey. You're gonna be frustrated and exercising will keep you sane.

Nice to meet you :D
There really is no pain involved when quitting smoking. The most you'll get is headaches, gas, or tightness in chest. They only last a few days, and then they're gone. The hardest part about quitting is fighting the cravings.

I like the sound of it..I already smoke outside-not in the house and that has helped me cut down as well as use an electronic cig at my office at work-(vapor) But gain weight..oh yeah I have..

The other stange thing is I do use that smoke time to pray and talk to God alot..Maybe this is a good sign to takeit a step further-can't hurt to try it..I'm a relapser--have quit a couple of times and let some BIG Stresser (like a death, job loss ) put me right back...but this time even though I have the head knowledge...I lack the want to..I really don't get that...I'll have to think about that, but I'm printng out your method.

Prayers are welcome. :) THANKS all the suggestions here are good ones!
