I am a female 20 years old. I do not want to marry or children ever. This could potentially be looked down upon in church and I could be facing some rude comments on being "selfish" "self absorbed" but I know it's the right choice for me. I grew up as an only child and have been alone my whole life and that's why i'm so okay with being alone. Is any one here already living this way...and how are you perceived in Church? Also of course, it would give me more time to be involved in ministry in 3rd world countries and working with orphans. Has anyone else chosen this path?

Hi Alina. I am married, so I have not chosen that path, but I do know of others who have intentionally remained single. I do not know the Lutheran position on it (if you want their perspective, you may want to post in the Lutheran congregational forum). However, from the perspective of my church (Orthodox), remaining celibate and dedicating your life to God is a valid choice, just as marrying someone and raising a family is a valid choice. Remember Paul and his instructions about marriage vs not marrying? If you don't remember it or haven't read it recently, it's worth the read.

DrJean also pointed out a good forum to check out.

Hello Alina I was like you once, I didn't want to marry but I always wanted kids perhaps adopt some... Anyway that didn't last because I fell in love and I'm sure you will too. I know you probably won't believe that but I'm sure one day you'll fall in love. As for having kids it's the best thing I've ever done I have a wonderful two year old.
