I am 16 and I want to become a Christian.

Sometimes I feel like my life sucks. I'm not involved with any community activities, I don't feel like I can relate to the other people at my school and I haven't been able to find a job. I just feel like I can't find any 'success' in my life.

I am trying to start up a business online so I can have at least one aspect of 'success' in my life, but I haven't made any money yet.

So I decided that perhaps I should join the church and it will help me figure out my life.

I've been watching Songs of Praise (they have it on TV every Sunday in Australia) and I like the idea of being involved in something like what gets profiled on that show.

Or I would like to join a church group like Sue on The Middle.

However, I have no experience as a Christian and I don't know where to start.

I don't know anyone involved in a church, and I have no idea which denomination to join or what kind of things I want to do.

What should I do?

PS. I used to go to Catholic church on Sundays as a kid, but I never really liked it. I want something more fun and involving. Also, please do not suggest the Religious Society of Friends.

Okay. From what you've posted, it seems as though you are seeking God through the Church. This is the wrong way to go about it. While fellowship with other believers is important, and keeps us in line with God, our relationship is with God, not man. I would urge you to start meditating on His Word and see how it applies to your life. Pursue God first, then use what God reveals to you to help the Church. Of course, if you still feel like you want to help at your local church, then go for it! Considering you started out RCC, almost any other denomination would be more "fun". Try a non-denominational and see how you like it. And what ministry interests you? Do you like working with kids, teens, helping clean, et cetera. Depending on the size of church you go to, there will be a lot of options.

It's not as hard as it sounds! It does seem scary at first, as it goes against our nature. Diving into Christianity can be difficult and daunting at first, but hang in there! The benefits FAR outweigh the risks. In fact, there aren't any risks. God looks out for His children and blesses them. By pursuing God, you will be blessed, whether in this life or the next. Trust me when I say this: pursuing God is worth your time and effort.

In order to pursue Him, I would suggest getting a version of the Bible that you can easily read and understand(if you don't already have one). This is God's love letter to us. Meditating is merely pondering the Scriptures and getting to know them on a deep level. Understanding how the Bible applies in a practical way to your life is key. Prayer is another great tool. This is how we talk to God. It doesn't have to be some special recitation or super poetic. Just talk to Him how you would want to talk to Him. Whether that is "Wazzup Big JC!? Yo' boy be doin' ai'ight!" or "Oh Lord of Hosts, hallowed is your name," both are acceptable and wonderful prayers to God. Communication is key, and He meets you where you're at. The thing you have to remember is: you don't have to work for God's love. He loves you, loved you, and will love you. Accept His love and let it show through your life. That is being a Christian. Sounds simple! Sure, life gets hard and confusing at times(when isn't it???), but having the hope and knowledge of Christ's love gives us joy. Working in this love, amazing things happen to us, and to others around us. We become a light to the darkness. Don't let this scare you! Remember, God loves you.
