  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I would be there if possible. Right on Mt Athos.
God had plans for me to be a foster parent however and I have anywhere from six to eight children in my home at any given time.

The Jesus Prayer I try to constantly have inside. There have been times when I have woken up in the middle of the night with it running through my mind. Simply awesome is our God!!

Well, you don't become a hesihast if you just recite the prayer. Even if it was possible to never stop reciting the prayer with your lips, you still would be far away from being a hesihast. It is only when the prayer enters your heart by the grace of God, and is there always, even when you sleep or speak or doing other things, and if your lifestyle is in harmony with your inner state, then you can be called a hesihast.

I know only one Saint who is called Hesihast -- Elder Joseph (he's not canonnated yet), although almost all Orthodox Saints had this prayer of the heart.

You can also read "One Night in the Desert of the Holy Mountain" which I would rather recommend as an introduction.

No one on here is even close to one, I can tell you that. Hesychism is alot more than prayer form the heart. You can have prayer of the heart, even with people all around you. Hesychist's get away, and sit in silence by themselves, or maybe with one or two other people. The word "hesychast" in Greek means "stillness".

There's certainly at least one other, though he's probably not well known outside of the Romanian Church. He's my daughter's patron, Sf. Daniil Sihastru, which translates as St. Daniel the Hesychast (you sometimes also see it translated as Daniel the Hermit, though). He was the spiritual father of St. Stephen the Great of Moldova (my son's patron and the icon I use as an avatar) and the two together were responsible for keeping Moldova as one of the last bastions of Orthodoxy in the 15th century between the fall of Constantinople and the Russians being freed from the Tartar yoke.

I do believe there were more, although the names slip my mind.

And yes, I try to recite the prayer continually, but haven't come close. And true, this does not even begin to make me a hesychast.
Like I said, I would at least have to be in a skete on Athos to even try to begin that type of life.

It's interesting to read that those people were attacked for what they did and the lives they led.
