  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A couple of years ago my church decided to start a one week summer camp for the foster kid's in our community and I was asked to be the director. So for the past couple of years that is what I have been doing with my spare time...we held our first camp last year...it was wonderful and had a profound effect not only on the children but on my adult volunteers as well. This weekend I conducted the training for this years volunteers and we are hoping to be able to take even more children to camp.

So I'm curious what other people think about volunteering...do you feel it is an important use of your time? Do you volunteer? If so, what do you do?

What are your thoughts???

Hi D!

My smilies work, now, I figured it out!!

I will volunteer, eventually, when my kiddos get old enuff to be on their own, without a parent needing to be around 24/7.

I think, we (older, wiser folks) have alot to offer and I think it's very beneficial. I know of an organization that I will offer my time to, which will be very 'healing' for myself, as well. ;)

May God bless you for giving your time (and your heart ) to the foster kids in your neighborhood.

I have done volunteerism work in the community and at church. I love both. I haven't done anything in just over a year now and I miss it. I have recently pulled an application to start volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and will eventually work up to volunteering for things at church again occasionally.

I miss doing volunteer work. It seems like such a simple thing to do yet it can have such a profound impact.

I think Habitat would be a wonderful organization to volunteer for...if I didn't have to work to pay my bills I would spend my time volunteering for different organizations around the world...I think it would just be amazing to be able to spend my time helping people.

I agree! I wish I had more time to give right now, but I am trying to keep life as "simple" as possible. Although, I can't wait until my older son starts Kindergarten in August, so I can volunteer in his classroom! :D

I have never done a mission trip, so I'm hoping that I will be able to fulfill that desire once my boys are in Youth Group and I can volunteer to be a chaperone.

Have any of you ever been on a mission trip?

I went on a missions trip to Calcutta, India. It was a life changing experience and really gave me a very different world view...

You should definitely do it when you have the opportunity - it will change your life...and what a wonderful opportunity to be able to go on a trip with your son!!!

That sounds amazing to go so far from home. Our youth group from my church back home has done missions work all over the US and in some of the Carribbean islands. We also have a sister church in Cuba we support and have sent missions groups to visit.

I'm not sure where we'll end up doing our mission work and we have a ways to go before he will be in Youth - he's turning 6 in October. lol But, I'm excited about it nonetheless. :)
