I need to set security permissions for a key in the registry i need to set the permission so ONLY the OWNER has READ and WRITE access no one else not even the system. please help me, thankyou in advance. Oh and i need the code to be in visual basic 6. Thx

No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think you can set it so that even system can't access the data. The best thing to do is to store the information in a hidden area of the registry and also encrypt the data. I progam in vb6 and have written a worship projection software called EasiSlides (see my website link button below) and I have saved my setting in the default vb area since there is no need for me to hide it from the user.
To load from the default vb registry:
Read_Reg = GetSetting(App.Title, "Key", "Name", "default data")
To save to default vb registry:
SaveSetting App.Title, "Key", "Name", "Data"
where App.Title is the title you have set in your vb6 application. You can do a similar thing but store your data in an encrypted form so that at least others don't know what it represents. Hope the above is of some help.

Wai Kuen, thankyou for you help but i already new how to do that, if you dont know how to do what i asked do you know how to set security permissions in the registry? i think its to do with RegSetKeySecurity but i cant work it out

Sorry - but I have not used that API before. There appears to be some articles in codehound.com when you type in RegSetKeySecurity in the search box at that website. Sorry I can't paste the link here because I have less than 15 posts and therefore system doesn't allow me to do so. You can also try the Google newsgroup comp.lang.basic.visual.

Hmm... Welcome to the forum. Heh, what is it that you are working on? Is this for school, work, or for your own education?
I notice you only have two posts and they are both in the computer forum. Not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just funny to think someone would come to a christian forum to ask for computer help... maybe it's because it's very important and you feel desperate and want God to help you out? No?

What O/S are you running?
If its XP,run "gpedit.msc" and you can set computer policies from there.
