Visiting BC

Howdy Y'all,

I'm from Texas, and I'm taking my fiance up to Vancouver, Victoria, and Whistler for our honeymoon this July/Aug (not necessarily in that order ). Any suggestions what we should do up there? I know about Butchart Gardens, Capilano Bridge, Stanley Park, etc.. And the cool fireworks on 8/6 and 8/7. Yay! I was curious what the locals think, and not what the travel agencies keep telling us.

I had one local tell me Chinatown was overrated (unless my fiance is oriental, which she isn't). And then something about Granville Island--what's that all about? And what exactly in Victoria makes it all honeymooney, besides Butchart and the Empress Hotel?

Too bad you're not going in Winter because that's the best time to go to Whistler, plus you could catch a Canucks game.

But the best stuff to do in BC is outdoors, I mean Vancouver is cool with a good nightlife if that's what you're in to.

Vancouver Island is a outdoor persons paradise. Hiking, Kayaking, Surfing whatever you want.

Whistler in the summer is good for the same sort of stuff.

That's about all I can think of for the lower mainland area.

Though I can't think of much at the moment that you haven't already mentioned, atleast not that woul be "honeymoonish" lol

There are a few good beaches here(kits, ambleside, english bay, etc) and nice hiking trails. Victoria is great for water activities like waterskiing, surfing, parasailing, etc. But you can find the basic stuff like kayaking and whatnot in vancouver also. Whistler in the summer, Go Hiking!! so beautiful!

I was in Dallas for a year, so pretty much anything that has water or mountains around it will be a shock.

Whistler is great in the summer, but if you pm me, I can also see if I have coupons for some of the attractions. I have some for Victoria and Van as well. One thing I'd do in Whistler is bike. There is also a "zip-line" that is suppose to be great.

Vancouver- well...depends what you like. Metro town for shopping, Granville Island for shopping and walking around, Expo for some science/movie stuff...

Victoria- for newly weds and nearly deads. Lots of great things to do there, but go to the wharf and get some fish and chips.

In Vancouver...You can visit the PNE/Playland for some attractions. Have dinner at one of the 2 revolving restaurants (Harbour Centre and Cloud Nine - Harbour center being better in my opinion). Stanley Park is a must - visit the Tea House there for excelklent food. Queens Park is beautiful, should visit there also. The Grouse Mountain Gondola is nice and you get a perfect view of Vancouver - top it off with lunch or dinner in the fine dining restaurant. Burnaby Mountain is also a lovers view of Vancouver.

On the Island....in Victoria, BC Museum, Miniature Musuem and walking along the streets in itself is wonderful. Yes, do visit Butchard Gardens.

Also, for romance - maybe drive up to Tofino on the Island for a night or two (The Himwitsa Lodge is affordable, with small kitchenettes and hottubs on the balcony) It is where hubby and I spent our honeymoon Looks over the Tofino Bay - you can go whale watching etc... in Tofino during the summer and take a romantic stroll along Long Beach!

Oh, and White Rock and Crescent Beach is also a nice place to visit - in the South Surrey area.

Tofino does seem a bit far from Victoria, though. Nanaimo looks fun. Okay, so how is a Texan like me supposed to pronounce "Nanaimo"? I want to sound smart.

Depends. You have to build your own igloo and live in it for a week with Bob, who every Canadian knows. If you can pass this test, and figure out how to correctly spell honour, you know what a cheque is, and can say Z-28 correct, you will pass.

I agree! I've been living in Kekowna for about a month now, and it's awesome here. So far I've got Kelowna and Penticton figured out pretty good. I recommend that everyone moves here.

Nooooo! Now you're giving them ideas! Kelowna is cool RIGHT now at the size it is...it's growing way too fast and that's unfortunate. Cool liitle place with people like Breetai running around.

Lol i read the book and took the test and passed with flying colours. I got too lazy halfway through the test and I skipped to the end and it said I was a true Canadian!!
