  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I personally believe that God created the earth. The Bible says He did. That is enough for me to make up my mind. I believe He made the universe in six, 24 hour days and rested on the 7th. However the Gap theory could also be a possible option because between Gen 1:1 and 1:3 there might be a gap of 1 day or millions of years?

I put down the Theistic Evolution - for me, I find it hard to believe in a God who claims to love us but then expects us to do mental gymnastics with evidence to believe in YEC. I also see Genesis as being allegorical rather than a science textbook (yeah, Biblical literalism never did it for me, I'm afraid)

I put the day-age theory, OEC, and the evolution options (although I don't understand what the difference is in the theistic evolution and Christocentric evolution options unless it means that Jesus was some sort of mutation among the human race, and noone can deny that He was an anomaly). I believe God knew what was going to happen, but only interfered in certain instances (I'm not a deist, but I think God created natural laws which keep the blame off God when we get sick or spill our milk, so I just have a few deist tendencies). Day-age, OEC, and theistic evolution can be distinct but my beliefs could be (and have been) called any of those without any stretching of definitions.

I believe in the literal interpretation of Genesis chapters 1, 2, and 3. I believe that the Young Earth Creationism theory fits in best with all of the various Scriptural accounts of Creation and how our Lord God created the Heavens and the earth, and all of the rest of His creations.

I have held different views over the years. Having grown up as an atheist when I first came to faith I would have held to some form of theistic evolution. Over the years as I have been convinced through both Scriptures, reason and science I have come to reject any form of evolution at all. There is merrit to both OEC and YEC in my opinion. I though hold to, and believe very strongly in YEC.

If one dispenses with macro-evolution as a baseless, unscientific hypothesis, then there is no longer any need for millions of years. I am a Bible believing Christian who rejects macro-evolution (to be differentiated from micro-evolution, or natural selection within a species). Consequently, I see no logical reason to reject young earth creationism.

Indeed....evolution is just a theory, and I personally cannot compromise my personal belief system by incorporating theories into the mix. The scriptures are most definately not theoretical in any way. My only conflict is with the length of the 6 days of active creation, if indeed they were 24 hours...and the human race was indeed created during this timeframe....what of things such as the dinosaurs, for as far as I know, they are not created in theory(actual bones exist), yet dated many many years older than what is deemed for the creation. I've also never heard the idea that dinosaurs existed in biblical times.

Peace and God bless.

I think any of them except non-theistic/deistic evolution or YEC might possibly be the truth. So, I guess that makes me an OEC person who doesn't care to pick a subcategory, caring only that God made everything, and not much worried about how.

Actually, evolution is not a factor for why many of us believe in an old universe. People such as myself, who reject the theory of evolution but believe that the universe is on the order of billions of years old, believe so because of various other pieces of evidence. For example, there are things like the cosmological redshift, the cosmic microwave background, the model for stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis, geological heat transfer, etc.

Anyway, not trying to get into a debate (since this doesn't seem to be the OP's intent), but there are many reasons why a non-evolutionist would believe in an old universe.

According to my understanding, some scholars have done the math using the generations starting from Adam through to Christ and have determined that creation is about approximately 8000 years old. For this reason, I believe that the earth has been here about that length of time.

Dinosaurs were mention in the book of Job by God Himself, when he mentioned the "Behemoth" in Job 40:19.

Also, there are "Cavemen" alive today in certain parts of the earth. Men live/lived in caves because it was convenient as a ready-made shelter. They just didn't live as primitive as today's PhD's would have you believe.

A "form" of evolution exists today. Noah only took 2 of each TYPE on animal on the ark: 2 dogs, 2 horses, 2 snakes, etc. Through cross breeding, done by man and naturally, other forms now exist as evidenced by MANY breeds of dogs, cats, horses, snakes, etc. But they didn't "evolve" from 2 enzymes in a scum pool that got super heated by a chance lightning strike.
