• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I don't know where you or your friend live - but in many countries it is illegal to smoke cannabis. Sincve Jesus clearly told us to 'obey those in authority', we shouldn't do anything that is against the law - which would include smoking cannabis.
There are a lot of different antidepressants available - if the one your friend tried didn't work, he can talk to his doctor and try something different. It can take a few tries to get the right medication, or combination of meds, but it's worth keeping trying :)

As Criada said, it's illegal in a lot of places. He may "feel" better, but as far as it actually helping him, that's a different story. Many people feel better by taking alcohol and things such as that, but it doesn't actually help them any.

I used to drink lots and lots of caffeine when I was depressed. It made me feel better, but as far as really helping, it didn't do much.

My concern with cannabis would be developing an addiction and dependency on it.

I used it for many years with reasonable good results, lung problems stopped me from continuing it as a mood stabiliser
