  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi i'm in collage right now and i'm taking an Annimation and Computer game development coarse. I am wondering if God will be ok with this? My problem is that lots of games like lets say Call of Duty or Halo are not only violent but have bad words in them. Now i have to admit that this is how i spent my free time, playing video games, my favorite game is actually COD4. However while i would like to say that none of my games will be violent or have any bad words i don't think i can. Because firstly i won't be the only guy making the games other people will too, and i can't expect them to never have any violence in their games. Also lets face it, violence unfortunatly does sell. Will God be ok with this? Thanks.

I for one am all for Christians invading the entertainment world and taking it back! If you take a video game development course, love it, and go on to make clean games with good morals, even Christian values, that will draw people away from the violent and perverted games, then I think that's great!

Just remember not to let the "industry" corrupt your views when you start looking for a job. Just because someone will pay you for your skills doesn't mean you should work on their project, especially if you don't agree with its content.

You gotta remember that we are the salt of the earth the city on the hill. So I guess the thing to go with is this. Be the best you can be at what you do as the bible says work as if Jesus were your boss. Create and develop art or games with the greatest ability you can. In fact go in thinking that you will make the best game ever played once you do that people will see what you contributed in the game. If you are like me you might view video games as an art form but you can also see them as some peoples attempts to play God by creating their own world. If you do create a game that is beautiful and people pay attention to who helped make it that way you will gain integrity. With that you can influence those around you. You will have become the City on the hill that they look up to then you give your ideals and faith into what you do and become salt. I guess this is a long rant but hope it helps. You also are not alone out there in Christians that game I am one of them. I know from what Ive seen in the industry is that they need people to create games that hold attention again instead of being mindless attention grabbers and if you can do that you will be above the others already. People are looking and seeking depth all the time in anything they do. Even we as christians can seek depth though we can easily find it around the corner in God's loving arms. So take heart and take the words of encouragement use the talents that God gave you and a dream but dont lose sight of who you do it for. Be for the glory of God. Take this with you as parting words.
"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all its righteousness and all these things shall be added onto you."
If those arent words to live I dont know what is.

Well said Denward. Our bosses on earth aren't our real bosses anyway. :) People are needed in every area, and if you have a talent and a skill to work in video games, then just remember "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men." (Col 3:23)

It can be easy to lose site of that. You know whats funny I saw this post because I randomly Googled something and it was the first thing that came up. I don't think it was coincidence at all at this point. I myself have been asking myself alot of questions. Just remember don't lose sight of who you are and where you are coming from. The road is long and you can lose parts of yourself along the way but there is always times and places where you can regain your innocence. That is the biggest thing to hold onto never lose part of it. I lost a bit of it when I lost my childhood friend last year and still havent trully recovered from it. Biggest thing to the orginal poster is remeber first and formost never lose sight of your faith.

Also if you want a critic angrySCORCH62 let me know. Ive played games for awhile and I know a few guys that I have gamed with for years. They are not christians but like to see fresh and deep art/ideas in games.
