  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Very disturbing book....

I've recently read "Goodbye, Good Men" by Michael S. Rose.

I had applied to seminary a while back. My "application" never got past the Diocesan director of vocations.

I quoted Ecclesia de Eucharista and mentioned that I'm loyal to the teachings of the Church.

My phone calls were unreturned...
My emails were unreturned....

I think I know why now... Quoting Ecclesia de Eucharista (a somewhat anti-liberal Catholic document) and stating that I'm loyal to the magisterium is what blew it.

Next summer, I'm going to apply again. But this time to a Diocese that I've researched more thouroughly.

There is a shortage of priests. There is not a shortage of pious men who are called to be priests. There are vocation directors that don't want men loyal to the magisterium in the Church.

I don't think I agree with your last statement. I'd find it very hard to believe that those who are accepting applications from would-be priests would, out of some personal agenda, not want that person to be representing the teachings of the RCC.

That doesn't make any sense -- even in a best practices point of view.

I know I'm not Catholic, but I'd say that this liberal vein is running through all the Christian Church. It sets the stage to paint those who are empowered by God to stand for truth as closed minded bigots. It's becoming a difficult world to be a Christian that stands for truth. I feel for you.

I couldn't agree more, brother.

rattyboy,

I read the book last year during the height of the sex abuse scandal. It tested my faith severely! But as a result, it has made me stronger in my love for the Church. It has made me somewhat of an activist. It helped me to get a better grip on what God is asking of me.

Your story is all to common. The best and brightest are being denied thier vocation. Fortunately things are changing. As you know from the book there are Dioceses that are very strong and will welcome you. I pray that you will be accepted and become a priest. We need many men like you. This problem will not be solved in ten or twenty years this will take a generation of loyal priest to change this situation.

Peace
