If we start with the understanding that Genesis is not a running account of man's history but one which God revealed to Moses, probably when he was on the mountain, we may see that God has a message for man in that book. God began revealing some of these mysteries a few years back, but I am far, far, far, from knowing all of it's mysteries.
Genesis 1 begins with the revelation of Jesus coming into the world. A prophetic message given to Moses.
Genesis 1:1- In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth
John 1:1 In the beginning, was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God./ Hebrew 1:2 through whom he created the universe
--------------------------------------------------------
Genesis 1:3 Then God said: Let there be light, and there was light.
John 9:5 "While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Genesis 1:4 God saw that the light was good.
God then separated the light from the darkness
John 8:12 Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day
God "finished his work" which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
John 19:
28. After this, aware that
everything was now finished, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus said, I thirst.
29. There was a vessel filled with common wine. So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth.
30. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said,
It is finished. And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Genesis 2:3. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation.
Jesus then rested on the 7th from all of the works which God had given him.
John 5:36 But I have testimony greater than Johns.
The works that the Father gave me to accomplish, these works that I perform testify on my behalf that the Father has sent me.

The greater and lesser lights, which God hung in the sky, are the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The Old bore some light but the Jews were still in darkness as the night.
Matthew 4:
15. Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,
the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan,
Galilee of the Gentiles,
16. the people who sit in darkness
have seen a great light,
on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death
light has arisen.
It is the Gospel which bears the light for Christians and now gives us light.
The many different creatures, which God created, refer to the many different nations of the Gentiles.
Acts 11:
5. I was at prayer in the city of Joppa when in a trance I had a vision, something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered from the sky by its four corners, and it came to me.
6. Looking intently into it, I observed and saw
the four-legged animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky.
7. I also heard a voice say to me, Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat. ...
18. When they heard this, they stopped objecting and glorified God, saying, God has then granted life-giving repentance
to the Gentiles too.
