Hello folks. Sometimes, folks may get travel anxiety, such as fear of flying, or fear of losing luggage. By the grace of God, travel is not scary for me. Today's devotional should offer solace to those who travel or are planning on traveling.

Verse | Proverbs 3:23-26 (NIV): "Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be at your side and will keep your foot from being snared." Deuteronomy 31:8 (NIV): "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Isaiah 40:30-31 (NIV): "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Luke 10:5-7 (NIV): "When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house." |
Explanation | These four passages from the Bible offer comfort, guidance, and wisdom on both physical travels and metaphorical journeys in life. They emphasize trusting God during unexpected circumstances, overcoming travel anxiety, and finding peace even in unfamiliar environments like hotels or foreign lands.

Societal Relevance | In the modern world, Christians can prepare for travel by maintaining faith in God, staying open-minded towards new experiences, practicing patience and flexibility, and seeking opportunities to share love and compassion with those they meet along the way. Additionally, it is essential to research the destination, pack necessary items, secure accommodations, and familiarize yourself with local customs and safety guidelines to ensure a smooth journey. Lastly, prayer, meditation, and journaling can help Christians build trust in God during unexpected circumstances while traveling, fostering inner peace and allowing for personal growth along their metaphorical journeys of life. Travel is a common part of my family. My dad is from the Netherlands, so we visit his parents almost every year or so, typically during June. Sometimes, we take side trips, as travel within the continent of Europe is cheaper per mile compared to flying within North America. One time in 2014, on a trip to Italy, the luggage was lost by the airport in the US. I was a bit frantic, as the thought of wearing the same pair of clothes for the entire trip disturbed me. Luckily, a few days later, the baggage was delivered to us, as it was accidentally placed on the wrong aircraft. Nowadays, as I am closer to God, if any travel issues arise in future trips, my demeanor would be calmer. Unexpected circumstances may happen sometimes, but we must be calm and trust in the Lord. Even if things in life do not go our way, it is not the end of the world. There are far worse events that can happen, or we could have been born years ago living in 1930s America while the Dust Bowl was in full swing or 1840s Ireland during the Irish Potato Famine. God has a time and a place for us, so we as Christians must not complain about unfortunate circumstances in 2024, as we could have lived in far worse times or with more dire events happening around us. |
