Venus transits the sun

June 6th 1761

Mason an Dixon set out to view the transit of Venus and the sun,later these two men were responsoble for the naming of the Mason Dixon line.

The June 6th 1761 transit was observed from 120 locations around the Earth.

June 8th 2004 Venus will make it's transit again,It's a sister transit being that Venus revolves in 8's- in 2012 on June 6th it will make it's final transit across the sun.

This thing is scary to me,I saw Venus do some really crazy things starting in 2000 and it keeps doing scary things.

Somewhere there is a dude out there that knows all about the planet stuff and we need to find him

My parents bought us a whole-family gift for the 'mas this year, rather than individual gifts -- a fabulous telescope... I have been looking forward to getting out and using it more and thankfully the weather is cooperating. Off to read more on that link, Flav.

We're on our way out to camp tonight, and we're taking the 'scope!!

A couple years ago it zigzagged in front of Jupiter and then stood above it in a crescent moon.Alot of people would say that this is what the star of bethlehem was,aries crossing Jupiter and standing above it,Jupiter being the Kingship planet and Aries standing for Israel,A king born in Israel.But there are alot of convincing arguments about the star of Bethlehem.On may 5th 2000 all the planets lined up in a plumbline.There are so many weird things happening right now i'll have to cut thiss short.but things are getting freaky.

Actually Vesus oringally was a comet! It is believed that it came too close to the Earth and knocked the Earth off its axis. Scientist believe at one time the northern hemishere was the southern and the southern the northern. Somewhere in Isaiah theres a passage where G-D is speaking to the prophet about being in his anger threw the world upside down. I wonder if this be the same thing???
I'd like to know where you got the information about the planets/consolation representing biblical themes? (i.e. aries-Israel, Jupiture- kingship planet).
It is written that in the "end-times" there would be signs in the heavens-we may be witnessing just that!!!

You probably already know this but others may not:

DO NOT LOOK AT THE TRANSIT OF VENUS ACROSS THE SUN, EVEN AT SUNRISE, THROUGH YOUR TELESCOPE, BINOCULARS !!!!!!!! IT WILL BLIND YOU! Even looking using your naked or sunglassed eyes can lead to SEROIUS and permanent damage to your eyes!!

Use the SAME precautions you use when looking at a solar eclipse!!! Indirect visual methods ONLY!!

In the US the transit will only be visible in the early sunrise (for the very last portion of the transit) and that only in the eastern states - even so - do not "look" at the sun!!!

"......over the next two centuries, there will be only four transits of Venus across the Sun: June 8, 2004, June 6, 2012, December 11, 2117 and December 8, 2125. The remainder of the time, Venus and Mercury are above or below the Sun as they pass between the Earth and Sun."

There have been 52 transits of Venus across the Sun between 2000 B.C and 1882 A.D. Humans could only have noticed this event if they were watching the sun near the horizon at exactly the right time.
There are no historical records that suggest anyone was so lucky prior to 1639, although Montezuma may have spotted the 1520 transit while studying the Sun for portends.

Most people, when they think of a "planet", imagine a large roundish body with a rocky surface and an atmosphere. Forgetting Pluto for a moment (which has too many issues to deal with here), only Venus, Earth, and Mars share these characteristics as planets in our solar system. Venus is called the Morning Star, because it is inside the earth's orbit of the Sun and thus quite often is seen "coming up" with the sun in the east. NEVER could Venus be bright enough to fool anyone that it is the sun. It is but a tiny dim spark in the sky - a "star," and could never be mistaken for our sun. It is after all, called the Morning "Star", not the Jokster Sun....
