  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Well The director that directed the Mummy 1, and 2 directed this movie. "Van Helsing" I loved it I though it was good. My guy friends said it had no plot, but it did, and it talked about how evil can become good in the long wrong. Hugh Jackman played a great role in this movie, and Is it me or is He forever plying Wolf caracters;) It was more like blade in the fighting, but more like indiana jones in the action, and flying around, and the crazy moves Hugh jackman does in the movie.

Another thing. If you guys saw the first mummy movie. You remember the guy at the beging that was Brendon Frasiers friend? Who cheated him out, and ran away in the beging at the fight scene?

Well the guy that played Igor in Van helsing. It was the same guy:)

BTW, were there a lot of people at the movie theatres where you and GL2814 saw it at?? Hugh Jackman is awesome and also he is so, so, talented he is in the Boy from OZ on Broadway.

I personally felt it sucked.

The graphics were about the only thing good in it, the acting was at least somewhat good. The main issues were with the poor plot, attempts at reworking the ideas of old into something new didn't work out too well. The history of it was thrown around a bit much and the point to it all was vague at best.

All in all, better than Hulk in movie standards, not quite as good as Hellboy. Just a general idea of where it lays.

I just saw it this afternoon and I really enjoyed it.

I thought that Richard Roxburgh, who played Dracula, did an amazing job. I've seen two other movies with him in it and he is an incredible actor.

A few things were far fetched, but over all I thought it was wonderfully done! It was nice to see vampires portrayed differently then most movies.

It really had the same feel as "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" which is one of my favorites. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed it so much. :)

I really enjoyed it. It was campy and cheesy and lame, but alot of fun to watch. I wasn't really happy about the friar having sex with the woman he saved, but I've come to expect that from Hollywood. It seems movie makers are incapable of showing Catholic clergy observing chastity.....Stigmata, the Order, etc...

I saw it today...pretty good. It annoyed me how they didn't give the audience a good introduction to the main character of Van Helsing though. And with the whole Gabriel thing, were they trying to make a reference to the angel Gabriel of the Bible? That whole part about the history between him and Dracula was not well said...I didnt get it.

But its a pretty good adventure story, if you can stand the transformation of normal human faces into grotesque beasts, which is about every other 5 minutes in the movie. From a 1-5 I would give this movie a rating of like a 4 I think. Just barely though.

Yeah, I thought Van Helsing was supposed to be the Arc Angel Gabriel, too, when the friar pointed something out about the "right hand of God." I personally liked the movie, but then again I'm a sucker for an action film. I thought the soundtrack was great and loved the religous "God's Plan" theme.

InnerPhyre, I agree with you about the friar sleeping with the lady. The friar was a wonderful, bumbling, adorable character. I don't know why they thought they had to add the element of him sleeping with the lady in there. They could have left it out and not harmed the plot of the movie at all.

i think it looks slightly... i dunno... evil? is it anything like that... or is it all just pure fantasy?

I'm not sure what you mean. There are evil characters in the movie....but it's no more evil than say.....the mummy with Brendan Frazer.

Yes, my father said that. First of all Van Helsing was just a doctor. He was not a guy who hunted down evil doings. That got me mad, and how they said. "A wearwolf needed to bite Dracula in order for him to die" It was messed up there. I think that he should have just hunted down dracula, the wearworlf, and Frankinstien. Like he did with Mr. Hide, and Jeckle in the beging.

Thats what I thought he was going to do, and what also got me mad. Was that the gurl died at the end!!! I was upset. I mean he did not have a knife or anything, but whatever.

Overall besides ^^^ that. I thought it was a great movie. That deserves to make it in the box office.:)

And hugh jackman does play awsome in musical plays. I am getting the movie. The boy of Oz. I cant wait. Umm also, Roo6339 the mummy had los of HUMOR! I mean it was non stop laughing. Brendan frasier is another good actor!

No wonder he looked so familiar ^_^ that was driving me nuts trying to figure out where I'd seen him before.

I enjoyed the movie, it was a bit of fun and I loved the soundtrack (which is now on my must have list).

Ah! lol When I first heard the guy talk, I leaned over to my husband and told him that I KNEW that guy, but I couldn't place him. It's good to see what it was that poked me in the brain about that guy. lol

All in all, I liked the movie, but there were some things that bothered me about it. I wish that they had done some more explaining about Gabriel, his relation to God, and his relation with Dracula. The acting of Dracula left a good deal to be desired by myself, but basically because he didn't strike me as intimidating at all. I really just wanted Van Helsing to hit him with a fly swatter of something. I liked the action scenes and the all, though at the same time my mind was rejecting them like crazy. lol Of course, that happens every time I watch a fantasy movie when someone falls from a few stories and gets up like nothing happened. I liked Kate's character for the most part, but my view is colored because I liked her so much in Underworld. lol As for her character's death, it didn't bother me too much. I can understand that a werewolf could have easily broken her in two, but it was ironic after her having taken such beatings through the rest of the movie. Oh, and like the others, I think that the sex scene with the friar was just unnessesary and didn't further the movie at all.

All in all, it wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, but it was far from the worst. It was entertaining, and that's what I paid for. :)
