• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

^^ were you being sarcastic?

if not, it is illegal to borrow a CD from a friend and copy it for yourself, its called copyright infringement or stealing/theft.. basically if you havnt paid for it you shouldnt have it..
even when you do buy a CD you still dont have rights to do what you want with it,ie you cant play it in public, cant copy it, etc etc.. you pretty much just own a licsence to play the CD for your own self.
im not sure if its like that in the states, but here in Australia its pretty strict. Ive got myself into a habit of buying CD's now.

Music is copyrighted (almost always) and buying the CD, or buying the songs on the internet, is like purchasing a license to own the copyrighted material. If you reproduce copyrighted material for anyone but yourself, it is against the law. That means copying a friends CD is illegal. Copying songs off someone else's iPod is illegal. If they give or let you borrow you the CD, it's not illegal as long as a license was purchased for that particular CD. If they copy it themselves and give it to you, it's illegal. Basically anything that involves reproducing the CD is illegal.

The only exception is if you make a copy for YOURSELF (assuming you own the original). That's why putting your CD on an MP3 player isn't illegal, because even though you're technically reproducing it, it's for yourself and you own the copyright license.

Will you be arrested and put in jail? Very unlikely.

Is it against the law and therefore a sin? Yes.

So let your conscience decide. You can spin it however you want (record label gets most of the money anyway, the band is rich already, they don't need my money...blahblah), but in the end it comes down to it being against the law, and the only laws Christians have permission to break are laws that prohibit us from worshiping Him.

It's perfectly fine to use the iPod

This is how I view the whole downloading music thing: if there is a song that I want, I look for a way to obtain the music legally (either buying the CD or getting the individual song off of iTunes or similar sites). If there is no way for me to get it legally (and I like some pretty obscure stuff so it's not uncommon) then I consider it fair game for downloading by whatever method I can find. Conversely, if there was no way I was going to buy the CD anyway, I don't feel any guilt "stealing" the music.

It's gotten to the point where listening to music from a friend is a sin? No matter how?

[wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] you. :groupray:

BTW, I'm a demon, and I shovel penises down my mouth.
