my past church had entrance fonts, I always try to remember to dip and make the sign of the cross when I pass a font to communion, entering/exiting church to remember my baptism. Remembrance of baptism, daily dying to sin should be an important practice among Lutherans (I say should because the notion of remembering and living in the baptismal promise is not well preached or taught among Lutheran Pastors).

When I was in the LCMS the pastor occasionally would sprinkle the congregation in remembrance.
I suppose it's always handy in case of an exorcism

Forgot to update this. We did get sprinkled a few weeks ago. Branches, not manmade. Making the sign of the cross was a knee-jerk reaction.
Shortly before, that same week, our pastor also had a quick lesson on the meaning of making the sign of the cross. Now everyone seems to be "swatting flies" like the Catholics. Perhaps because such a large number of members were former Catholics as well.
Now if I can only stop genuflecting when I arrive to our pew.

making the sign of the cross is a great gift many Lutherans have forsaken (too "Catholic" or too "old fashioned" although the teachers of the church are to blame for not better teaching why this practice is done).

Mark Wegener has a book "Rituals of Redemption" (Fairway Press, 1992), a series of sermons he preached at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN (a very high liturgical church) on the meaning of the rituals and liturgy of the church. He has a great chapter on "Baptism and the Sign of the Cross"
