I work for a company that ships small to large orders of protein. Because of the number of orders we ship we created our own fulfillment platform, which integrates with API's like Australia Post and Aramex (we are an Australian business). It can automatically generate labels using the APIs, which warehouse staff put on the boxes.

We are now expanding into the US market, and need to incorporate US API's into our fulfillment platform. Just wondering if any of you have had experience with US shipping API's like USPS, UPS, FedEx. Could you make any recommendations, or suggestions.

Just one, I take it you have ruled out EDIs? Stumbled on this one aspect,

''Extracting and integrating data with APIs is a much faster process, however, APIs are held to a different regulatory standard. This is why some feel that EDI’s are better suited for transferring less timely and more confidential data, whereas APIs are used more for making processes faster and more efficient between multiple applications.''

How much shipping are you doing?
10s, 100s, 1000s of packages a day?
After a while web APIs will slow down your shipping vs on site premise services.
(I work for an enterprise shipping software company)

Seeing it is a new market for us, I can not say how much volume will be shipped. We have worked with AUstralian API's and they have worked well for us. I don't know how US ones differ.

What do you mean by:

After a while web APIs will slow down your shipping vs on site premise services.

Just to clarify, we a looking to use the raw API's from UPS etc, not aggregator API's. Is this what you were referring to?
