Yikes! What kind of IMPO is this. Please get a grip. Just because Huckabee is a tax and spender does NOT mean it is because he supports creation design.

This has nothing to do with his personal beliefs.

Wait, let me get this straight. You're seriously trying to link a low national debt to causing the oil embargo on the United States and the Iranian hostage crisis? You're not trying to make a joke, you're actually serious?

We also know that pirates caused the global average temperature to rise.

edit:for those of you that aren't very sharp, this is an illustration that 2 pieces of data can correlate but be entirely unrelated.

I get the impression he's of the more militant type... If nothing else, the fact that he wrote something titled "The God Delusion" contributes hugely to that impression. And I wouldn't call someone who talks about religion in this manner peaceful:
You realize, I hope, that he's talking about religion as a meme there. He's not talking about eradicating the hosts of the religious meme, but the meme itself. Dawkins has never ever advocated any sort of violence against religious people. If Dawkins is a "militant atheist", then the rise of atheism would bring about world peace.

"Hosts" and "memes"--what a bunch of quackery.

That assertion is, of course, a load of excrement.

Except for despising the Republican party and voting for Huckabee (I like him but I plan on voting for McCain) what arunma said.

Science is not scriptural. It is man trying to reveal for himself, disregarding divine revelation. I totally disagree with you.
Uh-huh. Apparently, the pious only live in straw huts and are hunter-gatherers.

Any candidate who states that they question the scientific fact of evolution or who states that creationism/ID (aka goddidit) should be taught alongside real science should automatically be disqualified from holding any public office.

I'll go you one further:

Creationists pray for Armageddon to come quickly so that they will be saved.
Initially with Bush; any creationist president will wish for total global breakdown in the hopes that Armageddon will happen. That is why creationists insist that things like global warming don't exist. They wait till its too late and then they will say it is time to meet the lord!

Already the whole planet is reverberating from the ripples of International destabilisation wrought by the Bush administration.
Creationists have a death wish, and what makes it worse is the fact that they want us to feel the same!

I need to find a planet to move to; any suggestions?

Ultimately, what "should" happen is irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that evangelical Christians can vote for whomever we please. And I choose to use that right to support Huckabee, even if he ultimately promotes an unconstitutional mingling of church and state. Indeed it is my hope that he will do so. Note my earlier comment on my lack of faith in the U.S. Constitution.

A logo!? That's the best you've got? Companies have logos. Does that mean all companies are religious too?

Chalnoth, I don't think you understood the point I hoped to make on the basis of the logo. American Atheists specifically state their reasons for choosing the logo. It demonstrates that they put their hope in science. Furthermore (and I think more importantly), it shows that they want their group to be immediately associated with science. The fact that they associate their atheism with science is quite a clear indicator that they effectively worship science.

Utter hogwash. Science simply validates the atheistic viewpoint. The recognition that modern science demonstrates with very high probability that there is no such thing as a creator deity is in no way worshiping science: it is an honest appraisal of the facts.

The differences between this and "worship" are myriad. But the biggest one is dogma: religion thrives on dogma. But dogma is anathema to science: the acceptance of any dogma within some branch of science is the death of that science. There is nothing in science that is considered bad to hold up to investigation. No conclusions are drawn that are considered beyond the possibility of investigation. Everything is to be questioned. Much of the process of science has been involved in the excision of such dogmas from the process.

The acceptance of the idea that we should be endlessly self-critical is as far from religion as you can get.

I'm beginning to think that you are equivocating here, arunma. There is more than one definition of "worship". There is "extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem" which you could argue that some atheist do towards science. Then there is "a form of religious practice with its creed and ritual" which I can definitely say that no atheists do with science. If they did, they wouldn't be atheists anymore.

Also, I'm not seeing how "worshiping" science is a bad thing in the first place. You act like it is an insult to worship something.

Are you kidding me? That is the biggest bunch of nonsense I have ever read in my life. Creationists are going to intentionally bring about Argmageddon if elected? You have no evidence for that. It's like saying we can't elect any Muslim because some of them like to martyr themselves. Talk about painting with a broad brush,.

But aren't the qualifications of the candidate to be considered? Look at the current situation in the US (and around the world as a result) where an unqualified individual was put into high office. ‘W’ should never have been allowed to run. The next president will have to spend a considerable amount of time, energy and resources dealing with the ramifications of the decisions of uninformed knee-jerk voters. If Huckabee is elected, the situation will simply go from bad to worse.

So you feel that religious people need to leave the United States and move somewhere else, or just keep quiet and let the secular humanistic evolutionists run everything they way THEY see fit?
