  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What have we learned? Have millions of starving children died?

  • 2025 Major Bribery Scheme ($550+ Million): A USAID contracting officer (Roderick Watson) and three corporate executives pleaded guilty to a decade-long conspiracy involving bribery to steer at least 14 contracts worth over $550 million. The scheme included manipulating procurement for small business set-asides, with companies admitting liability for bribery and securities fraud. This led to the Small Business Administration rescinding USAID's contracting authority.
  • Syria Humanitarian Aid Diversion ($9 Million): A Syrian national (Mahmoud Al Hafyan) was charged with diverting over $9 million in USAID-funded food and medical aid intended for civilians to the Al-Nusrah Front, an al-Qaida affiliate. This involved falsifying records and inflating beneficiary numbers; it is described as one of the largest known diversions of USAID humanitarian aid.
  • Pakistan Power Grid Kickback Schemes: Multiple cases include a UK citizen (Stephen Paul Edmund Sutton) sentenced for conspiracy to obtain grant money through fraud and kickbacks on a USAID-funded power distribution program. Separate investigations led to convictions and debarments for kickbacks defrauding U.S.-funded grid projects.
  • Housing Allowance Fraud in South Africa: A project director (Ruth Chisina Mufute) was arrested for a nine-year scheme defrauding a USAID implementer of approximately $240,000 by falsely claiming rental housing allowances for a property she owned.
  • Internal USAID Employee Misconduct: A USAID Foreign Service Officer was terminated after an OIG investigation found submission of fraudulent travel receipts, military orders, and allowance claims, resulting in a bill of collections for over $4,000.
  • Syria Cross-Border Aid Collusion (Ongoing Since 2015): OIG investigations uncovered bid-rigging, bribery, kickbacks, and product substitution in humanitarian programs, leading to debarments, suspensions of funds ($239 million at one point), and terminations.

I checked AI too, on Google. How many have died or will die because of the lack of USAid funding?

Following the drastic cuts and dismantling of USAID by the Trump administration in 2025, researchers estimate hundreds of thousands have already died, with models projecting over 14 million preventable deaths globally by 2030, primarily children, due to lack of food, medicine, and health services, though the US government denies responsibility, claiming no one has died.
Current Estimates (as of late 2025):
Hundreds of Thousands: Boston University epidemiologist Brooke Nichols' conservative model estimates around 600,000 deaths, two-thirds children, by early November 2025.
Over 360,000: A similar projection from July 2025 cited by Senator Brian Schatz noted deaths from lack of food/medication after cuts.
UN Experts: Warned of over 350,000 deaths from the cuts, calling it a humanitarian emergency.
Long-Term Projections (by 2030):
Over 14 Million: A study published in The Lancet suggests this many preventable deaths could occur if defunding continues, including 4.5 million children under five, according to researchers from UCLA and others.
Plus China is making inroads into Africa, particularly in Nigeria which has lithium.

Let's see, only one item even claimed to be in 2025. No links to stories with no circulation. One "case" that is literally someone making a false travel reimbursement claim (lol), and... oh yeah, none of it even if true and found in the last 11 month negates any harm caused by the illegal termination of USAID.

Exclusive State Department records show: As the Trump administration abandons its humanitarian commitments, diplomats are reporting that the cuts have led to violence and instability while undermining anti-terrorism initiatives.

Only a few hundred thousand.

“The dismantling of USAID, according to models from Boston University epidemiologist Brooke Nichols, “has already caused the deaths of six hundred thousand people, two-thirds of them children,””

Several hundred thousands have died. From simple human search. Two thirds kids.

Don’t use AI for research a subject you don’t understand.

Another easily fact checked misinformation post.

I always believed that lives were more important than money. But I guess this is not the case for this heartless administration. So lets AI the saving per person and see if human life is worth the fraud savings.

"Based on the figures used, the mathematical ratio of discovered fraud savings is $936.67 per estimated death due to USAID program withdrawal. This number is a calculation that contrasts the $562 million found in specific fraud cases with the estimated minimum of 600,000 deaths from the reduction in aid. This serves only as a starting point for discussion."

God help us! :prayer:

No, there is no evidence that exactly 600,000 children have died as a direct result of the end or severe cuts to USAID funding.

In 2025, the Trump administration paused foreign aid on Inauguration Day, canceled over 80% of USAID programs, and effectively shut down the agency by mid-year (with formal cessation of implementation in July and remaining staff severed by September). This disrupted global health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and humanitarian programs.

Earlier I posted this earlier in my earlier post to you that I posted to you earlier.

I’m surprised you haven’t read it thoroughly and re evaluated your horrendously callous position.

I don't know if you're just trying to stir the pot or what... but the impact which the funding cuts had was very evident. One may not be able to correlate it beyond a shadow of doubt to 600,000 child deaths, but I think there can be very little doubt that children (and adults) have suffered and died as a result. Many of the organizations that I've given to over the years - organizations that are stationed in third world countries helping the poorest of the poor - had to withdraw from certain countries and shut down some of their projects.

I'm not sure why you would choose to glorify pulling out the rug from underneath a lot of these programs. All of the fraud cases that you cited could have been prosecuted without fully defunding USAID, could they not? And we are not 'saving money' by defunding these programs. The Trump administration is just spending the money somewhere else. (i.e. There are plenty of things they are spending money on now that they could have cut instead).
