"If the foundations are destroyed, What can the righteous do?" Ps. 11:3

Adventists In Defense of Marriage

A Brief History
On March 7, 2000 millions of Californians voted for and passed Proposition 22 which read:

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California."

This proposition was endorsed by the Pacific Union Conference Executive Committee.

But then on May 15, 2008 four San Francisco judges on the California Supreme Court ignored the will of the people and overturned their vote opening the gates for same sex marriages in California.

There is still hope
Over a million Californians have signed a petition to bring marriage to a vote of the people through a state constitutional amendment called Proposition 8 which reads (just as Proposition 22):

"Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid and recognized in California."

An amendment to the constitution is an historic event. It is the First Amendment of the US Constitution that protects our freedom of religion. A Yes vote on Proposition 8 will continue to protect religious liberty against gay activists redefining marriage in California. Twenty-seven other states have already done this with positive results.

As Seventh-day Adventist and American citizens we strongly support a Yes vote on Proposition 8. For multiple reasons, both civil and religious, we encourage others to do the same.

sentipente you said:

It would appear that you don't know anything about California's Prop 8 coming up or why it is on the ballot. That would also indicate that you didn't follow the links for additional information or ask any questions. If you had done so you would understand that the purpose of Prop 8 is to repeal a judges decision to overturn an existing part of our state constitution. Nor would you have added your second sentence which is at best only your personal opinion.

By the way, this is not the debate forum!

I completely disagree! I post a lot in the "ethics and morality" section, where non Christians can freely post. And it gives you a little inkling of what it would be like if gay marriages were approved.

Every type of unconventional and bizarre lifestyle is spouted off by posters there. Gay men, lesbian women, gay couples with children, polygamy, even couples with outside lovers living together under the same roof with children! And this is all vehemently defended by people there. There have even been a couple of threads that questioned incest laws (and openly said that there is nothing wrong for a mother and son to have consensual sex as long as the mother is past child bearing age), a thread on sexual relationships with animals and one on necrophilia that was quickly deleted.

All of the above is what society is coming to once we legalise gay marriages. It is the proverbial "slippery slope". It won't stop at just at 2 men/women wanting to get married. They'll want to have the rights to raise children. And then all manner of perverse and bizarre lifestyles will creep in, as I've said in the previous paragraph. Furthermore, gays will have demand the right to have "tolerance" and "acceptance" taught in schools to children. And one day, it will happen that no church will be allowed to preach against homosexuality from the pulpit.

So yes, stopping gay marriages officially is a major step to stopping this all this slippery slope. Don't let the flood gates open to gays and every other unnatural lifestyle. The basic unit of all society always has been the family, created by a male and female. Not all families of course have both partners or the original partners, but that male/female union is still the basis of adopted families, single families, divorced families etc.

By changing the constitution, you are changing the most basic unit of society. As I posted in the "ethics and morality" section once, it is like changing the DNA of a person. If you take a healthy person and change their DNA, that person will fundamentally change-and not for the better. The person may now have genetic diseases, crippled limbs, etc. And change of the fundamental unit changes the structure as a whole.

It is the same with society. Change the fundamental unit of society, and society will degenerate. I also heard a man once state, (of course I can't conclusively state this) that at the height of the ancient empires, such as the Roman and Greek empires, homosexuality became common place and accepted. This person stated that history has shown that any society where homosexuality became common, that particular society fell. I feel that our Western democratic way of life that many of us cherish will one day be threatened as Western society disintergrates. And disintegrate it certainly will with the increasing acceptance of homosexuality and legalisation of gay marriages.

CA Field Trip: 1st Graders Attend Lesbian Wedding by Brian Burch (Click to read comments.)

A story needing no commentary. From UPI:
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11 (UPI) — A group of San Francisco first-graders took a field trip to City Hall to attend the marriage of their lesbian teacher.

The students from the18 Creative Arts Charter School students took a city bus to City Hall to toss rose petals and blow bubbles on their just-married teacher Erin Carder and her wife Kerri McCoy, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

The newspaper reported that a parent came up with the idea for the field trip, which was a surprise for the teacher.
The school’s interim director Liz Jaroflow said the field trip was educational.

“It really is what we call a teachable moment,” Jaroflow said.
