Dear Redstiletto. I appreciate all you are doing for us, and I thank you. Since I do not know the technical names for all the different changes, could you, would you please give me an idea when my computerscreen will be big enough to hold the entire messages? in width, as well as lenght. I spend much time in scrolling to the left, then to the right. I am not complaining, dear Redstiletto, I would just like to know, will it be soon, or at the very end of the Upgrade? Thank you and sincere greetings. Emmy, ( sister in Christ.)

A lot of people are, though. It's been an ongoing issue since the CF2 upgrade.

The opening thread has been updated along the way to add and edit the features being updated.

Once I get new updates I will post them up!

Thanks for your patience!

I've asked before but didn't get a response. Could you please post the changes as a new post in the thread in addition to updating the OP? It's a pain when you're on post #50 and have to go back to the OP on page one to see what the changes are.

Plus, when just the OP is updated instead of a new post being added, there is no notification to those subscribed to the thread that there is something new to see here.

So what brought the site down for so many hours today? Noticed an address resolution error of sorts....

Looking at a post in another thread, sounds like there were some DNS issues.

Anything new going on in tech land here at CF2 ???

At 2 items a week, how long will it take to restore things here?

Someone who knows, please advise *WHY* it's taking this long?

Would appreciate more consistant communication...

Thanks,
Ty

Progress has seriously slowed, as had communication. And here I had high hopes for a while.

Is it true that Sir Adrian is a teenager? Just curious, if that's true, how much lack of experience is figuring in to the delays.

Easiest to check the date last updated by checking the last editted date in the bottom of the OP post : Last edited by Redstiletto; 28th May 2008 at 11:47 AM.

Which as of today is MORE than a week and there are only TWO items on the list being worked on

Can we get an explanation by someone who *KNOWS* WHY it's taking this long??? At this rate it will be literally years before we are back to where we were before the *change* ??? I think the powers that be are asking too much of our patience

At the very least we ought to get an explanation (see above) and a promise for all Site Supporters that benefits will be extended for at least the same length of time that the *features* offered as incentives are not functional.

Please tell us what is going on and what is being done to get things moving faster than it appears they currently are?

Thanks,
Ty

I can only update you as I know what is being updated.

I do know that they are working on some staff features that need to get up and running, such as ebans, reports and stuff in that nature.

Once I talk to the tech today I will update you again.

i am sorry that you feel I am failing in communication, but right now the tech team is working on lots of little fixes that is would be ridiculious to sit and name them all when they are all background fixes that no one notices.

There are roughly 3-5 items rolling off the list every day, not 2 a week. However, for the most part they are transparent to our members, at least initially. Issues such as trashed thread pruning, xml downloads, and eban softdelete and indexing are for the most part transparent to our members... but are critical on the back end. We know this has to be balanced with visible progress to the membership, thus we are trying to hit a couple visible items a week. The back end work by far is the most time consuming, and as it gets completed, the front end work will scroll off at a much faster rate.

Progress has seriously slowed, as had communication. And here I had high hopes for a while.

Is it true that Sir Adrian is a teenager? Just curious, if that's true, how much lack of experience is figuring in to the delays.

Actually, were putting more priority on the backend, as a few issues cropped up which needed to be addressed. Thus these is not so much to communicate, but if anything we're beyond the initial learning curve, and things are really flying.

I don't know his age (I doubt he is a teenager), but tech wise, in comparison to many of the coders on vb.org, I'd say he is in the top 5%. There are many hacker types, and others who talk up a good game, and then create unmaintainable and/or very inefficient code, and/or can't hit a target date worth a hoot. What I've seen so far, I've been very impressed with. We're in good hands.

This is precisely the kind of communication that is helpful. Even some of the back end progress is worth communicating. It shows something is happening.

Having been on and off staff I realize how silent it can get on this side when behind the curtain you can see progress.

Communicate with the non staffer in view. And then err on the side of more communication, not less.

my 2 cents
