Untried faith is not what real faith is all about. Real faith begins at salvation and then continues to grow as it is tested in lifes real problems and trials.
There is a process to learning how to trust and have faith in God and His Word. You get certain verses which may apply to a certain problem and you try them out. Does Gods Word work or not? You will soon see that God has other answers than yes. There are no and wait answers also. You will learn that the same amount of faith is required to get all three of these answers. Just because God says no or wait does not mean that your prayer was not answered with your best interest in mind. Your level of faith and love for God has to remain solid no matter how He answers our prayers. He enjoys seeing people of faith in times of trouble singing at midnight as Paul did in jail.
If you pray to grow so you will be 7 foot tall maybe a prayer that will not be answered the way you want it to happen. God knows best and gives to His children what they need and what they ask for according to His will for us.
There are times when the best prayer is: Lord, I ask that you make the decision on this matter. I will trust the answer you give as being the right answer even if I dont understand. This was my prayer in 1981 when my 15 year old daughter (Lisa) was laying in a hospital bed; not dead and not alive. She died, (her boyfriend, Ron, died also of the same car wreck) and I knew it was the right answer because God gives the right answers to prayers. I have faith in Him. My daughter could have lived and never been more than a near brain dead person laying there for years on end.
Having a solid faith in God has given us (my wife and I) great rewards. We have found that it is Gods great pleasure to give us things that we dont even pray for. He knows all about our wants and desires; so He sneaks up on us every now and then and gives us things before we pray for them.
When anything happens, we run to Him first (not the Doctor or our wallet) for the answer. He has answered so many of our prayers that we have a History of answered prayers to look at when we need our faith to stay steady.
God is also funny at times. He answered two very greedy prayers of mine in less than 10 seconds. It was wild.
Over the years, we have laid hands on many people and saw them healed instantly while our hands were on them. Our big prayer is In the name of Jesus be healed and they are. No, not all, but enough that we continue to pray for the next one in need. I like to pray for people on the street (or wherever); you will hear them complain of something. You ask them if you can pray for them and they will almost always say yes. Then is the time: lay your hand on them and repeat the big prayer. Seeing people healed will definitely increase your faith.
