We moved recently into a new area and spent quite a bit of time searching for a new church fellowship. We had heard great things about one church and how God was moving there....so we settled on it and started attending in earnest a month ago. We also went to a small group since this is a mega-church and we had been encouraged to do so. But although the staff has reached out with phone calls and fairly good about giving information...it is very difficult to get to know people or get in much of a conversation with them.

I feel like there is a lot of ice and we don't have an ice pick to break it ...but am not sure if it is just me...(us?); I need to try harder; or just move on. But we could be knocking on the wrong door. Our experience has been that newcomer's are initially welcomed in many churches but beyond that...not easy to get to know people. Maybe time is my friend in it.

Any suggestions from you who have been in this kind of place? Does this happen to most newcomers?

sometimes "mega" churches are so large, it is hard to get to know anyone there. it all depends on why God has you in a certain place at any given time. maybe He sent you there just for what you are supposed to learn at this time, and that is what is most important. you say in your post that you heard that God was moving in a certain place, so you settled on it...did God really lead you to that church? that would be the question i would ask. if God led you there, then find out why, and what He has for you at this time of your life. otherwise, you can always continue to attend, while asking Him to direct you to the church of His choice if this is not the one.
remember that the church of God's choice for you, may not look like where you really want to be at first. but when He leads you (if He hasn't already) it will be the best thing for your life, and could even save your life.
blessings,
